Deer Trail
Pack up your pawtastic friend and head to the Richmil Ranch Open Space in the town of Deer Trail, 13 miles southeast of Byers. This area boasts hiking trails suitable for all pup fitness levels. There are separate trails for bicycles, equestrians and people. Take your fur-ever friend on all or part of the 3.5-mile trail which runs through open lands with spectacular scenery. Afterwards, enjoy a picnic lunch together at the shaded pavilion. There are restrooms and water fountains here so all you need is a leash for Fido and some mutt mitts to keep this open space pristine.

East County Road 6
Head to the East County Road 6 neighborhood, in the town of Strasburg, 5.8 miles northwest of Byers, and you will find the town’s Five Acre Park. This is a conglomerate of sports fields where residents and visitors frequent to play a variety of sports. There are plenty of open, grassy areas where your pup can romp on an extended leash. On days when games are being played, how about taking a blanket and enjoying the competition and the mountain scenery! Be sure to pack plenty of water and mutt mitts to keep the fields clean for all to appreciate.

Grab your camping gear and your pup and plan an overnight stay at the Denver East / Strasburg KOA Holiday in the 15th Avenue neighborhood of the town of Strasburg, just 5.8 miles northwest of Byers. This campground offers dog-friendly tent camping and cabins to rent, or show up in your RV! Enjoy the beautiful Colorado landscapes here while relaxing the day away. This KOA offers an on-site dog park where your fur-ever friend can have some time off-leash to play with his newfound friends. There are picnic facilities with grills, restrooms and water available. In the Downtown neighborhood of the town of Bennett, 12 miles north of Byers, lies Trupp Park, where you and your pup are welcome. Enjoy this family-fun area which offers sports fields and horseshoe courts. Or have fun watching the kids show off their skills at the skate park. There are paved paths and open grassy areas for taking Fido for a walk or if you like to bicycle, this is the perfect park. Trupp Park holds special live music events in the summer, where you and your pup are welcome to spread out a blanket and enjoy the entertainment.
Sterling Hills
Visit Great Plains Park in the Sterling Hills neighborhood of the city of Aurora, 37 miles west of Byers. This puptastic park features 54 acres where you can roam among the open spaces, with your pup on an extended leash. The kiddies with enjoy two playgrounds and a summer splash pad. For some great hiking fun, jump on the Plains Trail which wanders for 1.8 miles and passes the Plains Conservation Center. The trail is made of soft-surface terrain, which is ideal for all pup-abilities. Or try the Conservatory West Trail which will take you and Fido for a 1.9-mile journey together.
