Located within the 48-acre East Frankfort Park, the bark park offers a spacious area where your furry buddy can run around off-leash, make some new friends, and have some fun on the agility equipment amidst shady trees and lovely scenery. There is also a fenced-in, wooded area that Fido can explore and sniff around in. Locals say that the drinking fountain is not turned always on, so it's recommended to bring your own water. If your pup still has some energy left, go for a leashed walk on the nature trails that travel around East Frankfort Park.

The Cove Spring Park/Nature Preserve is the pawfect place to escape from the city and spend some time in nature with your pooch. Located in the northern part of Frankfort, this 240-acre site comprises wetlands, waterfalls, springs, streams, forested ravines, and historic features, ensuring that visitors are in for an interesting adventure. Go for a leashed hike on the three miles of trails and elevated walkways, and stop by the interpretive shelters to learn more about Cove Spring's natural and historic features. Don't forget to pack some food and Fido's favorite treats so you can have a picnic in a fun and beautiful setting.

Go for a relaxing and educational leashed stroll along the Kentucky River with your pup at River View Park. The one-mile walking trail features 16 historic sites, including prehistoric and early Indian cultures. You and Fido will also encounter a monument representing the three original counties of Kentucky and a refurbished bridge from the 19th century. After working up an appetite, have a picnic on the banks of the Kentucky River or head to a nearby dog-friendly restaurant. Serafini, Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe, and Gibby's are all just about a five-minute walk away from River View Park and welcome four-legged customers at their outdoor tables.

Juniper Hill Park is a furrific place to spend a nice afternoon with both two-legged and four-legged members of the family. The city's oldest park, it spans 124 acres and houses a golf course, an aquatic center, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, a playground, and an arboretum. Get some exercise with your pooch by exploring the expansive grounds, and keep an eye out for the memorials commemorating fallen firefighters, Purple Heart recipients, Operation Desert Storm soldiers, and World War II submarine Pompano. If you and Fido need to take a break, there is a gazebo, a picnic area, and shelters where you can put up your feet and paws.

Situated along the banks of Elkhorn Creek, the Elkhorn Campground is a family-oriented, dog-friendly site where you can go on a camping adventure with your best pal. Family-owned and operated since the 1980s, Elkhorn offers 125 campsites, of which 109 are paved and 61 have full hookup, including cable TV. Go for a leashed walk along the creek and explore the open green spaces, and then watch the sunset as you and your pup tuck into your favorite camping food. There is a general store on-site in case you need to pick up some groceries and RV supplies. Be sure to keep Fido on a six-foot leash whenever he's outside your vehicle.
