I have loved dogs since I was eight years old, beginning with a Dachshund and a blind Pekingese. From there I went on to share my life several German Shepherds, a Rottweiler, an Airedale, and numerous mixed breeds. Much of my adult life has been spent in dog-related activities and jobs, including managing doggie daycare programs and training, both at PetSmart and privately. I love being around dogs and can’t wait to meet yours!

Paris, Kentucky, is a the seat of the rural Bourbon County in the center of the state and has always stayed true to its root. The main attractions of Paris are the historical town center, the traditional bourbon distilleries, and the antique stores. And because the 8,000 or so people in Paris are dog lovers, there are also things to do for dog owners.
A great way to enjoy an active holiday in the country with the dogs is booking a stay in one of the vacation homes in Paris or one of the surrounding towns. These cottages and cabins are often pet-friendly and offer a lot of space for dogs to run around as there are no official off-leash dog parks in Paris.
Paris, Kentucky, is also only 18 miles away from Lexington, the horse capital of the state with many horse related activities and attractions. First up is the Kentucky Horse Park, a theme park that explores the relationship between horses and humans which also includes the American Saddlebred Museum. There are also many magnificent horse farms in this area.
If you are passing through Bourbon County with one or more dogs, you can also stay in one of the chain hotels in Lexington, which allow pets. Lexington also has a total of four off-leash dog parks to choose from.
There’s no doubt that Paris has no shortage of beautiful natural scenery, lush green grass, and a plethora of animal habitats. In the heart of the city, you will find Bourbon County Park. This park encompasses nearly 300 acres of gorgeous green countryside. The park is not a dog park, so you will have to take your own amenities, such as doggie poop bags, water and dog toys. Your dog will also need to be on a leash at all times Many Paris residents frequent this park, taking their dogs, families and picnics. Trust us, you will have a pawtastic time at Bourbon County Park!
At only an 18-mile drive from Paris, you’ll find yourself in northeast Lexington. This neighborhood is home to one of the most underrated parks in the area. The hidden gem known as Hisle Farm Park has plenty of parks, trails, open spaces and seating. Many Paris residents even bring their horses with their dogs to the park. In addition to everything for your dog in the park, it also has an archery range and fishing pond full of fish. However, this is not an off-leash park, so make sure you take a leash and your own doggie poop bags.
Drive a mere 23 minutes from your home in Paris to Winchester, where you’ll find Lykins Park. This park is over 40 acres with plenty of shaded areas, picnic tables and sports fields. During the day, the park also has a concession stand where you can buy yourself some snacks while your dog enjoys the sun. The park is nothing short of picturesque in autumn, when the leaves begin to turn orange. Since this is not a dog park, you will have to take a dog leash as well as doggie poop bags and some water for yourself and Fido.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful parks in the state, Grant Branch Park, located in the city of Pinsonfork, is three hours away from Paris. Although this makes your trip to Pinsonfork a full day trip, it is definitely worth it. The park has a beautiful blue body of water that is 11.3 acres large. The park has hiking trails, a fishing pier and a gorgeous wood cabin. However, since it is not a dog park, you will need to take your own water, food, doggie toys and poop bags. Bring your best walking shoes and a fishing pole, too!
Located a mere 41 miles from Paris is the city of Frankfort. This city has plenty of natural beauty that you can bask in. However, if you really want to see it all with your dog, the best place to go is Cove Spring Park. The beautiful park has plenty of open spaces and trails that you can walk, run or bike with your dog. This on-leash park does not have any doggie poop bags, so you need to make sure you bring your own. The trails are lined with froggie pools, flowers and plenty of shady trees, which Fido will love exploring!
