Big Marsh National Wildlife Refuge borders Eden Isle on the east and west. This refuge houses hundreds of species of animals. So pets and people living in the area are treated to prime wildlife viewing.
For folks in Eden Isle, boats are a way of life. Living right on Lake Pontchartrain is a dream for people and dogs alike. But before your furry BFF joins you on the open waters, be sure she is well versed in doggy safety. You may even want to strap a canine life jacket on her. No doubt she’ll love an afternoon lounging in the sun on deck while you cast a line. The lake is chock full of a variety of bass, catfish and trout so hopefully you’ll reel in a big one.
Possum Hollow Park is only a bone’s throw away from Eden Isle. Load your pup into the car and drive five miles north to Slidell City Center in nearby Slidell and enjoy some time in this neighborhood park. Hook a leash onto your pooch’s collar and stroll through the large grassy fields. She’ll love sniffing around and discovering the new smells this park has to offer. A large grove of trees sits on one end of the park, so there’s plenty of opportunity for your dog to search for the perfect stick. Chances are she’ll even catch sight of a squirrel or two.
North Slidell in the nearby town of Slidell is just a five mile trip north of Eden Isle and is home to Heritage Park. Bring your four legged friend over for a delightful afternoon outing. This park sits on the banks of Bayou Bonfouca so you can enjoy the waterfront scenery. Get your pal’s heart rate pumping with some laps around the walking/jogging path. For a nice cool down, take a seat on one of the benches and let your furry BFF watch the two legged park visitors. Locals flock to this park since it has picnic tables, playground equipment, a large gazebo and a boat launch.
