““Dogs do speak, but only to those who listen””
My name is Jennifer, and my pup’s name is Brody. He is a 4 year old Shih Tzu-Schnauzer mix & my best friend! I am the mother of 4 grown children, I live & work in the Plymouth-Canton area, have incredible love & respect for all of our four legged friends.I have always had a deep love for animals. While not all pups are initially friendly and cuddly, I’ve yet to meet one that if given time and patience, was not accepting and lovable.

“Pets are family!”
Growing up with dogs my entire life, it was clear I had a passion from a very young age. Throughout the years, I have volunteered at multiple shelters, worked at quite a few doggie daycares/boarding facilities, a veterinary office, and even went to school to become a Certified Veterinary Assistant! I can't ever imagine a life or a job that doesn't involve dogs. After all, if you LOVE what you do, you don't work a day in your life!!

While Carleton, Michigan may primarily be an agricultural community, there are restaurants and businesses in town, and it's a quaint, quiet place to live and raise a family. Carleton is a village in Monroe County with a population of more than 2,300 people, and it's just a short drive from Detroit and other big cities in Michigan. If you live in Carleton and you're a dog owner, you and your pet will love how much space there is to run around while you explore the streets and the agricultural areas of the village. Although Carleton is just a small village, it has its own veterinary clinic right in town, and there are several others just a short drive from Carleton.
There's a superb park in Carleton known as Unity Park, which is part of Ash Township. This large park has a fishing pond, playgrounds, a walking trail, sports fields, picnic tables, and more. This 27-acre park doesn't have a designated off-leash area, but their website states pets are welcome as long as owners clean up after them. This popular spot in town is upgraded consistently, and new features are often added, making it an even better place to spend time with your dog in Carleton.
The Wayne County Parks Dog Park in northeast Westland, Michigan is just over a half-hour drive from Carleton. This park is a pawpular place for local dogs and their owners to come for some off-leash fun while dogs socialize and exercise in a fenced-in space. The park is three acres, and that space includes a section for little dogs and another for big dogs. There are two shelters in the park, and there is also agility equipment for the dogs to play on. Before you visit, please be advised that you must register your dog by providing proof of vaccinations and paying a small fee.
Heritage Park in central Canton, Michigan is less than a 30-minute drive from Carleton. This community park is free for everyone to use, and while it doesn't currently have an off-leash area, the parks and rec department is considering adding one, so that's something to look forward to! In the meantime, your leashed dog is welcome to join you for a day of fun at this local park. There are sports fields, playgrounds, walking paths, picnic facilities, baseball diamonds, a splash park, pavilions, and an amphitheater in Heritage Park, which means there's something there to please everyone in your family.
One of the most popular barks in the Carleton area is the Brownstown Dog Park in northwest Woodhaven, Michigan, and it's less than a 20-minute drive from Carleton. This dog park is located next to the Brownstown Animal Shelter, and it features separate areas for big and small dogs. There is a small yearly registration fee ($25 for residents and $35 for non-residents) to enter the park, but that covers up to three dogs and goes toward keeping the park in such great shape. Within Brownstown Dog Park there is seating, shade, running water, and waste clean-up supplies. The surface consists of pea gravel and grass.
Woodhaven has another great dog park that's only 20 minutes from Carleton, in the town's center. WOOFhaven Dog Park has separate sections for big and small dogs and provides plenty of space for happy dogs to run and play. This park is also membership-based, and some of the park's features include picnic tables, benches, shade, waste clean-up stations, and in the summer, there are small pools for the dogs to play in. Please be advised that only two dogs per person are allowed in the park at one time, so if you plan to visit with a pack of dogs, you'll need to be accompanied by other people.
The Swift Run Dog Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan is just a little more than a half-hour drive from Carleton. This dog park is open from 6 AM to 10 PM, and dogs must be registered to visit. The small membership fee required to enter the park goes toward maintaining safe off-leash areas for dogs in the area. There is 10 acres of space for your dog to run and play in this park, and the area is divided into a section for small dogs and another for bigger dogs. There are waste bags and water bowls in the park, but be sure to bring your own water for the bowls in case they're empty.
