Nike Park in located in the town of Carleton, just 8 miles northwest of Newport. Here you will find a mix of amenities that are sure to please you and your pawtastic pup! There are soccer fields where Fido is allowed to romp on an extended leash, and tons of other open space, perfect for a stroll together. This open space is used by model airplane clubs to show off their skills. You and your fur-ever friend are welcome to watch! There is also playground equipment for the kiddies, a large picnic area and restroom facilities on site.

In the Southeast Monroe neighborhood in the town of Monroe, 10 miles south of Newport, the River Raisin Marina and Campground on the banks of River Raisin is a great place to spend the day with your fur-ever friend. Take a walk around the marina with your pup on leash to enjoy its scenic beauty. Or plan an overnighter in the campground on site which is pup-friendly. This campground is adjacent to the wilderness park, which covers a pawtastic 10 square miles. You can fish on Lotus Pond and catch some supper for you both to share. Restrooms are provided.

East Central Monroe

East Central Monroe

For a fur-iendly day with Fido, head to the East Central Monroe neighborhood of the town of Monroe, 10 miles south of Newport.  The River Raisin National Battlefield Park is open to visitors to enjoy its trails. Jump on the .6-mile loop which offers historical information along the way, or its one-mile trail through the historical battle grounds. For a bit more time together, take the 4.4 loop which connects with the Sterling State Park and River Raisin Heritage Trail. Next, visit Heck Park which offers quiet time amongst the Veteran’s Memorial. Keep Fido on leash at both.

Mid-Frenchtown

On the western edge of the Mid-Frenchtown neighborhood of Monroe, 10 miles south of Newport, Munson Park is the place to visit with your pawtastic friend! There are miles of trails for walking with your pup which meander through the park and out into the meadows and surrounding forests. These trails can be used for bicyclers as well, so make sure to keep your pup on leash. The park itself offers sports fields, where Fido can romp on an extended leash, sports courts and a skate park. A fishing pond tops off the list of scenic wonders!

The William C. Sterling State Park, in the Sterling neighborhood in Monroe, 10 miles south of Newport, offers you a pawtastic day of outdoor fun. Located on Lake Erie, you and Fido can walk for miles on trails that meander throughout this scenic 1300-acre park. Take the Sterling-Marsh Trail for 6 miles of hiking fun, or the shorter Sterling-River Raisin Heritage Trail which is a 1.60-mile loop, perfect for all pup-abilities. There are boating opportunities, and fishing directly on the lake or the lagoons within. Be sure to keep Fido on leash throughout. Restrooms are provided.
