Washington Rock
The Washington Rock neighborhood of Green Brook, which lies next to Dunellen, is always popular with pooches, because this is where you will find the 52 acre Washington Rock State Park, which is one of the oldest state parks in New Jersey. This historic park played a crucial role as a lookout point during the American Revolution, and its panoramic views are what still makes this park so popular today. In addition to the scenic vistas, this park is also home to a short hiking trail and picnic areas, making this a pawsome place to spend a few hours with Fido. Don't forget to bring a lead, doggie bags and drinking water with you.

Greenbrook Road
If your pooch enjoys a good run off the lead, then the Green Brook neighborhood of Greenbrook Road, which is right next to Dunellen, is the place to go. This neighborhood is home to the Green Brook Central Bark, a fenced-off dog park where you pup can safely play and socialize with others. There are two separate fenced runs here, one for smaller dogs and one for larger breeds, as well as a small pavilion, picnic tables, and fresh water available in the warmer months. There is also a paved track that runs around this park, which is pawfect for a leisurely stroll to cool off afterwards.

Green Brook Park (Green Brook Park Historic District)
Directly adjacent to Dunellen is the neighborhood of Green Brook Park in Plainfield, which is home to a park that shares its name. Green Brook Park runs along both banks of the Green Brook, making this historic linear park pawtastic for an adventure with Fido. There is plenty to see here, from soccer fields and basketball courts to playgrounds and picnic areas, as well as a paved trail that runs for just under a mile. The majority of the park features open grassy areas, with a number of different trees and plants living here, including Red Maple, White Pine and Yew, all of which will no doubt have Fido's nose twitching in excitement.

New Market
The Piscataway neighborhood of New Market is next to Dunellen, and is home to a couple of parks that your pooch will love. The largest is New Market Park, which is home to a few sports facilities, a nautical-themed playground, a picnic shelter, and a paved pathway. Just two blocks north of this park lies New Market Pond, with its dam and picturesque gazebo, making this another pawtastic spot for a walk with Fido. Also in this neighborhood is the smaller Columbus Park, where you will find several sports facilities, a picnic shelter, a playground and a walking trail lined with mature shady trees.

Hamilton Blvd
Less than a mile from Dunellen is South Plainfield, and there are a couple of pawtastic green spaces to explore here. The largest is the Highland Woods Environmental Reserve, which is a large wooded area located just behind a residential neighborhood. With two streams and a walking trail running through the reserve, this is a great opportunity to see more of the local wildlife and vegetation. Also in this neighborhood is Borough Park, with its ball field and playground, as well as a military helicopter on display at the entrance. Dogs are welcome in both parks, but do need to be kept on a lead at all times.
