Directly adjacent to Rumson is the small town of Fair Haven, which offers up some pawtastic dog walks. This is where you will find the Fair Haven Fields Natural Area, featuring 77 acres of greenery for you and your pooch to explore. The grounds have been split into two, with the western side containing tennis courts and other sports facilities. The eastern side is the part that your dog will really love, as this consists of 40 acres of natural woodland, with short trails running through it. If your pup still needs more exercise McCarter Park is also in this neighborhood, with a playground, open green spaces, and a paved walking path.

Locust

About a mile from Rumson is the small town of Locust, which is home to a green area that your pooch will really love. Huber Woods Park stretches out for 375 acre, and is not only home to an environmental center, a farm section, and a reptile house, but also to eight miles of walking trails that will take you and Fido through beautiful forested areas. There are nine trails in total to choose from here, with each one ranging in difficulty level. For a relaxing walk, give the 1.1 mile Country Gait Trail a try, which will take you through fields and forests. If you would like something more challenging, the Many Log Run extends out for 1.2 miles, and features several elevation changes.

North Red Bank

Less than two miles from Rumson is the North Red Bank neighborhood of Red Bank, where you will find a few different activities to enjoy with your pup. Begin with a walk around the Riverside Gardens Park, which is sat at the top of a small hill, boasting picturesque views. There are plenty of grassy areas for Fido to sniff around in here, as well as numerous benches for you to both relax and soak up your scenic surroundings. If the two of you are feeling hungry afterwards, there are a couple of dog-friendly restaurants in the neighborhood worth checking out. For some fresh seafood, head to the Boondocks Fishery, while Hansel 'n Griddle specializes in gourmet sandwiches.

Red Bank

Red Bank's Red Bank neighborhood is about three miles from Rumson, and is an area that is always bustling with life. For a fun-filled dog walk, head on over to Count Basie Park, where you will find a playground, several different sports facilities, and a paved walking track. If you would like to treat Fido to a meal afterwards, Gianni's Pizzeria can be found within the grounds of Count Basie Park. This restaurant serves up everything from pizza and pasta to seafood and sandwiches, and have two outdoor picnic tables where your dog can dine with you.

Shrewsbury Borough

The Shrewsbury neighborhood of Shrewsbury Borough is about three miles from Rumson, and is home to quite a few dog-friendly activities. Begin by taking a stroll through some of the neighborhood parks, such as the John Parker Park, which features sports facilities, a playground and picnic benches. Shrewsbury Borough also provides access to the recently updated Manson Park, with its sports fields and picnic areas. If you and your pooch would like a bite to eat, D'Jeet is the place to go. This casual restaurant serves up American classics with locally-sourced ingredients, and has ten outdoor tables where you and Fido can dine together.
