Middle Grove is a small village, but there is plenty of open space for you to explore during your afternoon walks with your pup. The Middle Grove Town Park is more than 12 acres of land for you to walk and play the day away. You can walk the trail, or you can just stroll around as you please watching everyone play tennis, basketball, soccer, and softball! If you are taking your pup to the park, make sure you have some waste bags and drinking water to make the trip go smoothly! There are usually plenty of other pups there as well.

Middle Grove State Forest

Middle Grove State Forest

Middle Grove State Forest is a puptastic place for you and your dog to spend a day together just bonding and getting back in touch with nature. This 573-acre forest doesn't have any designated trails, but many hikers use the old logging roads as trails. You can also bike, ski, and ride horses in the park if you come back without Sparky! There are plenty of bird and mammal species throughout the forest, from owls to coyotes. If you are vigilant, you may even spot a beaver dam from the road! Make sure you keep your pup on-leash and bring plenty of water.

Daketown Road

Daketown Road

Daketown State Forest is just a few minutes outside of Middle Grove in the neighboring town of Greenfield Center. This forest is over 500 acres full of a variety of tree species. There is also a variety of wildlife for you to observe and enjoy while hiking through the forest with your pup. Porcupines and skunks have been reported in this forest, so make sure you stay alert and vigilant while making your way through this natural oasis so that you and your pooch don't run into any unpleasant surprises. Black bears have also been sighted over the years, so keep your eyes and ears sharp!

Lake Desolation

Lake Desolation

Lake Desolation State Forest is north of the town of Middle Grove, and it's more than 400 acres of trees, glacial lakes, and wetlands for you and Spot to admire. The state forest has a deep history in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, as well as technological development. The only trails are unofficial ones worn in by years of other hikers, so you have lots of options for exploring this amazing place. There are nearby camping grounds as well if you are looking to unplug from your daily life for a few days and reconnect with your pup and the land around you. 

Lincoln Mountain State Forest

Lincoln Mountain State Forest

The Lincoln Mountain State Forest is about 20 minutes from Middle Grove. It is well worth the drive, with more than 900 acres of natural beauty to appreciate with your pup. There are many unmarked old logging roads that are open for hiking, biking and more! Songbirds, owls, and hawks all call this forest home and live there virtually undisturbed all year long. Small mammals also run abundantly through the brush. Coyotes are reported to roam the forest and have been photographed on occasion by quiet and patient visitors. Make sure you bring plenty of water and snacks for energy if you plan on sniffing out this forest!
