This trail stretches for a whopping 360 miles across upstate New York. The East Syracuse section of the trail features a variety of terrain, including stone, concrete, and asphalt. Canalway Trail is yet another Rails-to-Trails Conservancy effort, which takes old rail lines all across the US and converts them into walking trails. Be sure to wear good walking shoes, and pack plenty of water and waste bags for your walk.

Southside

The muttropolis of Syracuse is home to many Fido-friendly amenities, and it’s only 19 miles southeast of Plainville. The Southside neighborhood is remote from the hustle and bustle of downtown, and has a quiet community park for you and your pooch to enjoy. Your pup will need to stay on their leash in Elmwood Park, but he won’t mind as long as he’s by your side! You’ll find a few hiking trails to explore together here, as well as a stream which runs through the park. Your pup will love dipping his paws in the water on a hot day! Be sure to bring a towel if you plan to let Fido swim.

Liverpool

Wegmans Good Dog Park is located just 15 miles from Plainville, making it a convenient place to enjoy some off-leash exercise. Take off the leash once you’re in the fenced area and watch your mutt go wild playing on the agility equipment and making new fur-iends! The walking trails here are the real hidden gem, though. You’ll find 5 miles worth of trails here, which provide breathtaking views of the lake. Your pup will need to be on-leash to hike the trails with you. Don’t fur-get to bring some water! The park provides doggie waste bags.

Auburn

If you’re an inexperienced hiker, or are simply looking for an easy walking trail, you’ll find the pawfect trail in Auburn, located 40 minutes from Plainville. The Auburn-Fleming Trail spans 1.6 miles, making it a great place to enjoy a short walk. It also features a variety of terrain, including wooded areas, farmland, and wetlands, which your pup is sure to enjoy exploring! This shaded trail is dirt-covered and is perfectly flat -- what could be more comfortable than that? Don’t forget to bring water and waste bags!

Jamesville

If you’d rather play in the water than at a dog park, Jamesville should be on your list of places to visit while you’re in Plainville! It’s home to the Jamesville Beach Off-Leash Dog Park, which is located near the Jamesville Reservoir and has a lot of fun things for you and your pup to do together! In addition to walking trails and a wide open, grassy area for your pup to play, you can also let Fido dip his paws in the stream! Keep in mind that dogs aren’t allowed in the beach areas during the summer. Be sure to bring a leash, because your pup will need to wear one in certain areas.
