Located on the Allegheny River, the Rachel Carson Riverfront Park in the adjacent borough of Cheswick is a picturesque park where you can enjoy a peaceful walk and picnic with your four-legged best friend. Constructed by the employees of a nearby electric company, the Rachel Carson Riverfront Park features a walking track, a picnic shelter, and a pretty gazebo. Take a leashed stroll around the area while taking in the scenery, then duck under the shelter to enjoy a packed lunch. Named for local marine biologist and conservationist Rachel Carson, this park is pawfect for spending a nice afternoon with Fido.

Coxcomb Hill
Adventurous pups will have a barking good time at the Barking Slopes Conservation Area in nearby New Kensington! Spanning 151 aces along the Allegheny River, Barking Slopes is a steep-walled and forested valley that various birds and animals call home. Here, you'll also find three nature trails, all of which welcome leashed doggos. For an easy hike that comes with puptacular views of the river valley and Springdale, hit the Uplands Trail. This easy, 1-mile loop/out-and-back combo will take you and Fido to a pawsome overlook of the Allegheny River. Remember to bring water for your pooch to keep him hydrated throughout the hike.

Penn Hills Hulton / Hunter
Does Fido have plenty of energy to spare? Let him burn it off by taking him for a leashed walk at the Penn Hills Community Park in the nearby municipality of Penn Hills. This family- and dog-friendly site features paved walking paths, two children's play areas (one of which is wheelchair accessible), three rental pavilions, and two ball fields. If your pooch likes the water, there's also a creek that flows through the park—let him dip his paws or even go for a little swim! Just remember to bring a towel, unless you want to go home with a damp dog.

If you and Fido are traveling to the nearby borough of Oakmont, don't worry about finding a place to eat. Fox Chapel
The nearby borough of Fox Chapel boasts 491 acres of mostly interconnecting parks, open space, and trails in an intentionally “rural” setting, making it a furrific destination for people and puppers who love the outdoors. Riding Meadow Park is a great place for well-behaved pooches to explore nature off-leash. With lots of trails to follow and a stream to play in, there's plenty of fun to be had at Riding Meadow Park. Salamander Park, which is located in the southeastern part of the borough, is a good choice for a quick and easy hike through the woods. It is named for the spotted salamanders that can be seen in the park's wetland every spring.
