Best 13-Letter Dog Names

Throughout our history, both nationally as well as worldwide, canines have played a variety of roles including hunting, tracking, search and rescue, transportation of goods and people, and being wonderful companions.  Another important role they have played historically, is that of war dog, and many have died in their attempts to aid their human handlers in active war zones. Our first pop culture dog with a 13-letter name is Sergeant Stubby, a Boston Bull Terrier foundling mutt who had the honor of being the most decorated war dog of World War I, as well as being the only dog to have been nominated for any military rank, being subsequently promoted to the rank of Sergeant through his efforts in combat.  Stubby was a stray, having no owner, who found his way into the annals of history in 1917.  It seems that on one particularly hot and humid morning, Stubby (not yet named) stumbled into the Yale Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut.  At that time, Yale University's football stadium area was "Camp Yale", the home of the 102nd Infantry which was a portion of the New England-based 26th "Yankee" Division, where the soldiers participated in the basic training exercises required prior to their deployment. Stubby wasn't a particularly notable-looking mutt, being described as "short, barrel-shaped, a bit homely with brown and white brindled stripes".  

As many stray dogs are known to do, Stubby hung around the troop of soldiers and, also as almost always happens, bonded with one of the soldiers and eventually becoming endeared to all of the troop, eventually taking on the role of "mascot".  A 25-year old private named J. Robert Conroy bonded most closely with Stubby and, being nearly inseparable, when the troop was ready to deploy, had to deal with how to take Stubby along, secretly.  Now, you wouldn't think this would be much of a problem when comparing it to today's military environment but, at that time, the United States was the only country involved in World War I conflicts who did not have a formal war dog training program, one of several areas in which the United States was found lacking in WWI. Through a complex series of situations, Pvt. Conroy was able to smuggle Stubby aboard the SS Minnesota for the trans-Atlantic voyage to France.  During the voyage, Stubby was discovered and soon became the treasure that we all know dogs can be to all who were aboard the ship for the crossing.  Because many of other countries who were involved in the conflict had war dogs of their own who were specially trained, Stubby was easily incorporated into some interesting situations on the battlefield; such as carrying medical supplies and water to injured soldiers on the front line, sensing and warning the soldiers of poisonous gasses and even capturing an enemy soldier and holding him by the seat of the pants until his human soldier counterparts could arrive and take custody.  Stubby was "unofficially" decorated after the war effort by General John Pershing in 1921 when he pinned a medal to Stubby's uniform. Stubby actually was "decorated" by the French government as well!
