Introduction
Big Hero 6 Dog Names in Pop Culture
The first dog in the Pop Culture Spotlight is none other than Hiro, a Belgian Malinois. He worked at the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office as part of the K-9 unit. He retired in 2017, after roughly eight years of service. In dog years he would almost be 69 years old. He was partnered with Deputy Kevin Skau in 2009, chosen from a selection of 20 dogs. Deputy Skau describes Hiro as being relentless, having high energy, and a stable temperament. After completing several training months working forty hours a week, Deputy Skau and Hiro went to work together in February 2010.
Hiro was part of a group of five other K-9 dogs working at the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. He was double certified for narcotics detection and apprehension work. Within his service, he was deployed almost 1,280 times for narcotic sniffs, area searches, and tracking. He was able to successfully locate 102 subjects, including missing people and criminal suspects. For his work, he was recognized in November 2016 during the Narcotic Detection Trials with the National Police Canine Association. At the trials, Hiro, along with Deputy Skau, was named the employee of the month.
While most Sheriff Offices work their K-9 unit dogs for ten to eleven years, the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office wishes for their dogs to enjoy their retirement while they are still healthy, which allowed Hiro to go into retirement after eight years of service. He now lives with Deputy Skau’s family. He manages and handles the family’s other dogs as well as plays with Deputy Skau’s daughter. Hiro now spends his days carrying around a tire, playing in puddles, and going on runs.
The next dog in the spotlight is Wasabi, a 3 ½-year-old Goldendoodle, who is a service dog. In December 2016, Liam Hagie from Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin got this wonderful service dog for his autism spectrum disorder. Wasabi started going to school two days a week but soon began to go every day that Liam went to school. With Wasabi, Liam was able to gain a sense of independence; having Wasabi there to guide him wherever he needed to go. It also allowed Liam to have a buddy or a solid body with him at all times. Having a dog with Liam as opposed to an adult supervisor allows him the freedom to interact with other children on a more natural level.

When you think of Big Hero 6, specifically Baymax, you think of cuddly and soft. These ten breeds embody that mindset. They are all coated with soft fur and love cuddles. First on the list are the Coton De Tulear, who are absolutely adorable dogs that just ask to be cuddled. They also have a sweet disposition which makes them love attention. Next are Pomeranians, who are small sized, real-life teddy bears. Golden Retrievers are one of the most well-known adorable puppies and dogs They have a soft coat and sweet disposition.
Australian Shepherds are another great breed that resembles tiny bears who will cuddle with almost everyone. Labrador Retrievers are also known for their adorableness, and their natural tendency to love. They are also great therapy dogs. Pugs, with their clown personalities and wrinkled faces, are true cuddlers. They are also incredibly inclined to hog your bed.
