Introduction
The Cane Corso is an impressive breed, with a large head and alert expression. This is a large, well-muscled breed that does require an experienced handler. The Cane Corso is not the right breed for a family with very small children or a novice dog owner. While the Cane Corso has an imposing appearance, with the right training, they can be loyal and eager to please. However, without the proper training, they can become aggressive. This breed can be willful and will try to become the leader of the family. Be sure to carefully research the breed before committing to bringing a puppy home. After you have decided to bring a Cane Corso home, you will have to find a strong, unique name for your puppy.
Cane Corso Dog Names In Pop Culture
The Cane Corso was granted full recognition by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 2010. However, the United Kennel Club (UKC) granted full recognition in 2008 under the breed name Cane Corso Italiano. In 2017, a Cane Corso named Royal, or more formally Black Pearl Guardiano Dei Reali made history. He earned a place in the UKC’s Top Dog finals for all breeds. Royal was ranked #3 out of all UKC recognized breeds. Royal was born on October 28, 2015 and has several titles and special wins credited to his name. He is an AKC champion, UKC grand champion, IABCA International champion and was named the #1 Cane Corso in 2017 for UKC. Royal also has won best in show multiple times at UKC sanctioned dog shows. In 2016 and 2017 he was the best of breed winner at the Society in America for Cane Corso Italiano (SACCI) specialty show. Royal also has several performance titles attached to his name including therapy dog international (TDI), AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC), AKC coursing ability (CAA), AKC trick dog and UKC SPOT.
This exceptional Cane Corso is also a blood donor. Royal is the son of the 2014 World Champion winner, Dorian Gerassi Corso or Allora for short. Royal was born at Black Pearl Kennel owned by Ayalla and Erez Ruvio in Williamston, Michigan. The Ruvios are registered with the AKC as Cane Corso Breeders of Merit and are also members of the AKC’s Bred with H.E.A.R.T. program because they also perform all health testing for the breed. Royal was shown by Lihi Ruvio, daughter of the Ruvios. He earned his UKC championship at just seven months of age. At just nine months old, Royal earned his AKC Canine Good Citizenship. He earned his Therapy Dog International at just 18 months old. Aside from his conformation and performance career, Royal also regularly visits the staff at the Michigan State University Veterinary Hospital where he donates blood. Currently, Royal is in training for his IPO title. IPO stands for Internationale Prufungs-Ordnung and is formerly known as Schutzhund Protection Training. In order for a dog to earn their IPO title, they must pass three different phases: tracking, obedience, and protection. When Royal is not training or working, he loves playing games with the Ruvios son and daughter. His favorite toy is a basketball. For Royal, it seems the sky is the limit and he is only a young dog.
Cane Corso Dog Name Considerations
The Cane Corso is an imposing dog and can be a fantastic companion. However, because of their size and muscular bodies, they can also cause bodily harm if not properly handled. Early socialization and training are important to create a loving, loyal four-legged friend. After you have researched the breed and found a responsible breeder that also does the necessary genetic health testing for the breed, you will need to focus on finding a name that fits your new puppy’s impressive look and loyal personality. Being from Italy, many Cane Corso owners like to focus on finding a name that has Italian roots but also is majestic and strong. Names that mean protector would also be a great choice for your new puppy, such as Sandro which means protector of the human race. Mossimo is a definite Italian name that means the largest or the greatest of all. Girl puppies can also have distinctly Italian names with tough meanings. Aelda means a warrior and Pietra is a person that is like a rock. While you do not have to strap your new Cane Corso with an Italian name, you will want a name that is unique, fun and agreed upon by all members of the family.
