Introduction
Classic Dog Names in Pop Culture
Classic dog names are timeless and as cliche as some may sound, these names will always be acceptable monikers for man's best friend. Most of the classic dog names come from famous dogs in the movies, literature, and other pop culture springs. However, what makes classic dog names so special is their fixed position in popular culture of any age. When you hear the name Spot or Sadie, you know you have a classic dog. Three of the most classic dog names, and also a few of the most popular ones are Max, Duke, and Gidget.
All three of these dog names are featured in the animated film, The Secret Life of Pets. The leader of the three dogs in the famous featured classic dog names in pop culture is Max. Max is a white and brown Terrier mix living the single dog life in Manhattan with his owner, Katie. He is a smart, well-mannered dog who loves Katie immensely. Max's life is suddenly turned upside down when Katie comes home to a new brother for Max. Duke is a large, scruffy mongrel dog who doesn't have good manners. Duke attempts to take over Max's space and Katie's affection until Max discovers Duke's greatest fear; going back to the pound. Duke has been in and out of the dog pound several times, and he knows that if he lands back there, he will never see the light of day again. Max doesn't seem to understand Duke's fear and purposefully wrecks things in Katie's apartment to prove Duke is a "bad dog." These actions force Duke to behave better, but with resentment and Duke causes Max to become separated from his daily walking routine and subsequently, lost in New York City, the first chance he gets. Together, Max and Duke have to travel the streets - and sewers - of New York in search of Katie's apartment.
While the two brothers are lost, the neighbor dog, Gidget, is the only one of the friends to notice Max's disappearance. Gidget is a pure white Pomeranian with the biggest crush on Max imaginable. She appears flaky and bubbly at first, and Max certainly views her that way when he's not totally ignoring her existence. However, Gidget proves her fierce determination in uncovering and saving Max, eventually winning his notice and appreciation. The three dogs names are some of the most popular in pop culture and the new movie, which came out in 2016, reintroduces these names into the mainstream.
