Introduction
Dog Names Ending in 'ch' in Pop Culture
Our second featured famous pop culture spotlight dog is another Disney character named Stitch. He appears with Lilo Pelekai, a young Hawaiian girl, in the Disney movie Lilo & Stitch, released in 2002. In the movie, Stitch is an illegally created, genetically engineered extraterrestrial life form who resembles a blue koala. Stitch, whose "birth" name is Experiment 626, was created by a character named Jumba Jookiba, described as an idiot scientist and evil genus, who is the lead scientist for Galaxy Defense Industries. Stitch was engineered to be uncaring and destructive, to destroy anything and anyone he touched. He finds himself in Hawaii, lost and alone. Lilo Pelekai, a young girl, happens upon him and becomes enamored with his mischievous antics. Secure in her Ohana (family) beliefs, she helped him develop from the uncaring, mischievous, destructive "dog" she befriended to a more loving and self-conscious entity who, though not completey converted from his previous programming, did learn to enjoy and even depend upon the company of his new adoptive family on earth. His fame began with Stitch: The Movie, and his fame continued into Lilo & Stitch, the Series in which he dies but is revived by Lilo's love for him.
These two canine creations of Disney possess similar traits of real-life canines with whom we associate. Those traits and attributes of unconditional love and loyalty are those which are truly ones which we all appreciate in our furry family members.
