Introduction
Dog Names Ending in 'co' in Pop Culture
Pochacco was born on February 29, 1989 (a fictitious leap day) on Uguisu Yokocho (in English, this means Nightingale Lane) and lives in Fuwa Fuwa Town which translates to Airy Town. Because his creator wanted to keep him accessible to many cultures, he has been purported to have been born in Brazil or to live in New York City. Also known as "The Amazing Super Pup" and "Street Dog Extraordinaire", he is described as big-eared and chubby faced, his favorite hobbies are three-on-three basketball, soccer (he especially likes to be gatekeeper), skateboarding and cruising on his motor scooter. This sporty and playful klutz likes to eat banana ice cream, carrots, renge-so which is a Chinese milk vetch, and anything that is vegetarian.
Our second featured famous pop culture dog with a name ending in 'co' is Marco, an auburn colored Spitz breed (now called Pomeranian) who captured the heart of Queen Victoria in the Spring of 1888. She was visiting in Florence, Italy and was totally ensnared by the big intelligent eyes and that little cute nose possessed by the Volpino Italiano dog (translated as Italian foxy dog). The Volpino Italiano dog is a variety of the Spitz breed, many of whom are generically referred to as "Pomeranian" today. Queen Victoria was so pleased with this breed that she brought four of them into her royal household: Marco, the red-sable with whom she had initially fall in love and whom she named after the famous explorer Marco Polo, Gina, a white female and two others of this same breed. Let the records show that both Marco and Gina went on to win prizes in the show ring in their day. Queen Victoria so loved this breed that, using her powerful influence, brought them to the forefront, making them one of the most popular as well as fashionable toy breeds, both then as well as today, the red-coated ones (like Marco) being especially popular.
