Introduction
Dog Names Ending in 'ton' in Pop Culture
Clayton, a rescued English Springer Spaniel, had the sympathy and attention from people throughout Texas and beyond. It seems that in January, 2014, Lori-Lynn Clayton got a call from a Texas sporting dog rescue group, asking her to take a look at an English Springer Spaniel who was in her local animal shelter. He was emaciated and nearly dead. Fighting a battle with shelter workers and veterinarians to avoid euthanasia, she enlisted the aid of the English Springer Spaniel Rescue organization in North Texas and was able to get him flown out of her local shelter and transferred to Carrollton, Texas to a facility where he could get specialized care. By the time the dog was well enough to leave the hospital, he had been fostered by Kim Mrozek, dubbed with the name "Clayton" and had a dedicated Facebook page titled simply "Clayton". The Facebook page enabled people from all over the country to follow Clayton's progress while the veterinary professionals struggled to find out why Clayton's body wasn't absorbing nutrients, causing the vets to fight to reverse the affects of starvation and dehydration. Within 18 hours of setting up the website for Clayton, Mrosek had over 600 members, a number which eventually increased to 1,759, the members calling themselves "Clayton Nation". Because of the social media exposure, more than $50,000 was contributed to help pay for 3 weeks of intensive care treatments for Clayton.
While this scenario is certainly not a common one, the English Springer Rescue of America said they had never seen so much in donations given to date, showing the value of social media in getting the needs of rescue animals in front of the public.
Dog Name Ending in 'ton' Considerations
Many pet owners, when trying to find that perfect name for their new pet, use a variety of categories from which to draw name suggestions; for example, the breed of the pet could relate to a common belief or piece of knowledge specific to the breed; or, the color and texture of the pet's coat could lead to names like Fluffy, Shadow or Snowy. The size at maturity of the breed of the pet may inspire the moniker Tiny for a teacup Chihuahua or Great Dane, and Hugo for a Mastiff or Yorkie. Even a particular behavior you've noticed could point to titles such as Piglet, Snorter or Sleepy. The most important two things to remember are: first have fun; and second, have more fun ... like a 'ton' of fun! Let's try using dog names which end in 'ton'.
