Introduction
Although a lot of people go for outgoing and energetic dogs or fun-loving dog breeds that are adventurous and love to play around, there are still people who would rather have a dog that has a calm and composed demeanor. Many dog breeds, mostly larger dogs, are calm and quiet by nature. These dog breeds are most commonly selected as companions by first-time dog owners. If you are one of these people, you are probably brainstorming ideas on what to name your newly acquired dog. Since your dog has a calm behavior, it would be fitting to choose a name that matches this demeanor. Luckily, there is a long list of names for you to choose from!
Dog Names Meaning Calm in Pop Culture
The name “Milo” means “calm, mild, and peaceful” in German. In popular culture, a dog character named “Milo” got featured in the popular film “The Mask.” The Mask is an action comedy film released back in 1994. The plot of “The Mask” follows the story of Stanley (Jim Carrey), his random discovery of a wooden mask, and the comical yet bizarre events that followed after he tried it on.
In the film, Stanley Ipkiss is a shy bank clerk who works at Edge City Bank. He is notorious for being very unlucky and would often get ridiculed by the people around him. The only ones who don’t make fun of him are his co-worker Charlie and his pet dog Milo, a Jack Russell Terrier. One day, a nightclub owner-slash-gangster’s girlfriend named Tina visits the bank where Stanley is working to study the bank’s layout in preparation for a heist. Stanley started to develop a romantic connection with Tina, and it looks like Tina feels the same, or so it appears. This resulted to Stanley following the girl to her boyfriend’s night club but he was denied entry.
On his way back home, he found a wooden mask and randomly put it over his face. Stanley suddenly transformed into an entirely different creature with a cartoonish behavior, green-face, zoot suit, and bizarre abilities and special powers. He is capable of altering himself at will and called himself “The Mask.” Upon this discovery, he used it as an opportunity to get in with Tina while doing unjust things like robbing a bank. He enjoyed his new personality so much but it didn’t last for a long time, as it resulted to him getting into so much trouble.
Later on in the film, Tyrell, Tina’s ex-boyfriend and Stanley’s rival, found out about the mask and did everything to capture Stanley and steal it from him. When Tyrell put the mask on, he became a total monster. Tyrell captured his boss and Tina, looking to kill them and bomb the night club. He forcibly commanded his men to turn Stanley over to the police station after Stanley is forced to reveal where he hid the money that he stole from the bank.
When Stanley got detained into a police station, Milo, Stanley’s ever loving and loyal dog, came to his rescue. Milo helped him escape and together, they try to save Tina and prevent Tyrell from doing his evil plans. In the final parts of the film, Tina managed to trick Tyrell into removing his mask. The mask was then recovered and worn by none other than Milo. When the mask slipped onto Milo’s head, he transformed into a powerful beast and ended up fighting Tyrell’s men. Stanley then took the mask from Milo and transformed into The Mask. He used his special powers to swallow the bomb brought by Tyrell and saved the day. In the end of the film, Tina threw the mask towards the sea and Stanley’s co-worker Charlie jumped into the water to try to retrieve it for himself. To Charlie’s surprise, he sees Milo swimming away with the mask.
Dog Name Meaning Calm Considerations
The word “calm” means “not showing any aggressive or chaotic emotions.” Calm is synonymous to many other word, such as “peaceful” and “tranquil”. The word calm is used to describe a lot of living creatures with regards to their manners and behavior. However, it can also be used to describe many other things, such as the weather. If you have a dog that possesses a calm demeanor, then you may want to name your four-legged companion with a name that means “calm” or a name that is synonymous to the word.
When choosing a name for your dog, fur parents usually take a lot of factors into consideration. For one, they consider the dog’s physical appearance. Many dog owners base their dogs’ names on their coat color. Other factors that furparents consider are the dog’s breed, gender, and size. But for this particular theme, the aforementioned factors do not necessarily have to be taken into account. Instead, pay attention to your dog’s personality. If your dog has a calm demeanor and tends to be always at peace, you can either choose a name that directly means “calm” or one that means “serene” or “peaceful.” Great examples of such names are “Milo” and “Tully” for male dogs or “Irene” and “Olive” for female dogs. You also have the choice to pick a name that embodies or symbolizes peace. For example, the name “Dove” is a popular symbol of peace, which can also be a great name for female dogs.
