Introduction
Dog Names Meaning Savior in Pop Culture
Elijah, our first dog in pop culture with a name that means 'savior', is a true purveyor of peacefulness and poise. He is not your typical Golden Retriever, a forever puppy who loves the water and wandering. No, absolutely not! While he does love those doggy things, he also loves serving his community in ways most dogs (or people) never get to experience. He performs activities for the military and for the police force, not to mention that he is fully vested in the comfort dog ministry of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. Dogs from this ministry were amazing comfort for those affected by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 and in Joplin, Missouri after the 2011 tornado. Elijah was introduced to his own Texas community, being sent to comfort those first responders and victims of Hurricane Harvey in 2017. He spent a week visiting the victims of Harvey who were reduced to living in shelters, surrounded by the hurricane's devastation. He is the only dog in the United States who is triple vested by the comfort dog ministry to work with veterans of the military, veterans of the police force and still be a full-fledged comfort dog. He is kind and loves everyone, making him a calming, non-judgmental, comforting influence for everyone with whom he comes into contact. He is a true hero!
Our second pop culture dog with a name that means 'savior' is Noah. Noah is a rescue dog who was born without eyes and handicapped back legs. Euthanize him? Some said yea while others said nay! Obviously, the nays won out and Noah is still with us today, spreading his life and story far and wide. Having become the world's most beloved anti-bullying dog and Ambassador for Blind and Handicapped Animals, he makes his way to schools where he "teaches" lessons of disability, tolerance and acceptance to children of all ages, sending very strong messages that it's never OK to pick on other people just because they're different, handicapped or disabled. He was rescued by Saving K9 Lives and given a Muffin's Halo (a custom designed halo that prevents him from bumping into things to prevent injury to a blind animal) and a donated wheelchair. He has more than demonstrated his abilities to behave and perform much like any other "normal" pup, like skiing the Wisconsin slopes with custom made skis for his wheelchair! He enjoys visiting and giving his special kind of love to Seniors when he's not giving it to school kids. He was a semi-finalist in the Hero Dog Awards in 2016 and was recognized as Wisconsin's 2017 Hero Dog Award! How many of us can say we've been in People Magazine? He has accomplished so much in his young life - he is truly a hero!
