Dog Names that Start with Ba

Pop culture is full of lovable dogs of all kinds, and when their names start with a 'Ba", they usually carry names such as Barkley or Bandit.  Barkley, the dog, is a full-sized Muppet from the long-standing PBS children's show, "Sesame Street".  He first debuted in 1978 and has not left the show, though Barkley has been voiced and played by different puppeteers over the years.  Barkley has been featured in more than 4,000 episodes to date, and this special dog understands and responds to American Sign Language as he was once considered Linda's dog.  Linda was a deaf actress who taught children Sign Language and also addressed issues deaf people face in a world full of sound.  

Bandit is also a popular dog name and was the dog's name in the 2016 film, "The Bandit Hound."  This Australian Shepherd, as he was referred to as, once worked for a couple of bad guys by stealing money and goods but when the criminals got put away, Bandit thankfully got out of the shelter and was adopted by a family.  Unfortunately, the family starts facing some money issues and Bandit, unprompted, steals cash for his new family.

While Barkley and Bandit are popular names and have firm places in pop culture, few cinema dogs can rival the comedic as well as the intellectual genius of Baxter from "Anchorman".  Baxter is one of the most well-loved dogs in cinema as Ron Burgundy's faithful Terrier mix.  Baxter is a dog of few words, but Ron can understand his barks, which turns out to be well thought out and articulate.  In the film, Baxter can easily be considered the most intelligent character and a fount of wisdom.  Ron even tells Baxter that he is wise.  Baxter "is like a miniature Buddha, covered in hair."   Ron displays faith and relies on Baxter, who also has excellent spatial awareness for a dog.  In one scene, while Ron is on a phone call with Baxter, he requests that Baxter "bark twice if [he] is in Milwaukee."  Baxter is humanized through the film and seen wearing matching pajamas and orthodontic headgear as well as enjoying a meal out with Ron, his best friend.  Finally, this little guy also fiercely brave and protective of Ron.  Towards the end of the film, Ron falls into a zoo bear pit attempting to rescue Veronica, and suddenly, the two stars are face-to-face with a fierce Grizzly Bear.  Baxter, with his cross-species communication abilities, bravely jousts into the bear pit and convinces the Grizzly to spare both Ron and Veronica, thus saving the day and solidifying his position as one of the all-time cinema dogs.
