Dog Names that Start with 'Ev' in Pop Culture
Don't you love to read stories about brave, loyal and loving dogs? There are so many available on the internet, in books, magazines, and newspapers as well as incorporated into an increasing number of family-friendly films. Our pop culture spotlight for today is Eve, and her story is a real animal heroine story.
In 2005, Eve was riding in a used pickup truck, purchased by her owner Kathie earlier that day. While Kathie was driving along, the vehicle began to fishtail. She managed to bring it to a screeching halt. Kathie didn't even have time to think about being thankful for being able to maneuver to a stop before the interior of the truck began to fill with smoke. So, what would any one of us do in this situation? Right! We would open the door and get out and away from the truck as quickly as possible. This option was not available for Kathie as she is paralyzed from the waist down by multiple sclerosis. Knowing that her vehicle was on fire and an explosion was imminent, she pushed Eve, her Rottweiler, out the door along with her wheelchair. So, at this point, do you think safety was within reach? It was for Eve but not so for Kathie as the thick smoke prevented her from being able to locate the wheels on her chair.
Like any of us, knowing the seriousness of her situation, Kathie began to feel extreme panic. That's when Eve showed her true colors! Kathie reported later that she knew she was in danger of blacking out from the smoke inhalation, but she felt Eve grab her ankle and drag her out of the smoking truck. Eve managed to pull Kathie to the relative safety of about ten feet from the smoking truck when suddenly it burst into flames. Law enforcement officers who came on the scene to help shouted to Kathie that she had to get farther away from the truck to avoid serious injury as an explosion was assured. As Kathie struggled with all of her strength to get away from the fire, to get closer to the police car, she felt Eve nudge her, offering Kathie her collar. Kathie grabbed Eve's dog collar and held on with all her remaining strength and Eve dragged her an additional forty feet to safety. The fire extinguished, Eve was awarded the prestigious Stillman award for her bravery.
