Dog Names that Start with 'Gi' in Pop Culture
Recently, when the author's husband was in the hospital following a total knee replacement, she had the pleasure of meeting a very special visitor to the hospital floor on which he was confined. This visitor was a darling little girl who wore an equally darling little vest on which was embroidered "Therapy". She was a Lhasa Apso who had the most congenial personality and manner about her. Her calmness in such a high traffic area was amazing, quite like the calmness shown by our pop culture spotlight, Gizmo.
Gizmo is called a “Wonderdoglet who is a therapy dog extraordinaire” by the American Kennel Club, who was awarded the highest honor in their ranks for therapy dogs, AKC Therapy Dog - Distinguished. Not only does Gizmo have this honor, but he holds the titles of AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC), CGC-Advanced (Community Canine) and (CGC)-Urban. Additionally, he is a member of the AKC Canine Partners program dogs which includes mixed-breeds and rescue dogs. This adorable little 3.5 pound cuddly canine visits people in need, seeming to sense who needs him, offering love and acceptance to those who have suffered some type of emotional or physical trauma, helping them to reconnect emotionally.
This little frisky friend, with his motto “Cuz we’re frens,” teaches children to read, shares his love at hospitals, schools, special care facilities, dialysis facilities, veterans homes, and hospitals, assisted living homes, special Olympic facilities and libraries. He was invited to help deliver holiday treats to the elderly in a community in Wisconsin as part of a girls group and he had the privilege of visiting the U.S. Congress on the eve of the presentation and vote on a benefit program for therapy dogs (which passed quite easily after his visit).
Gizmo’s notoriety doesn’t stop with the awards and special mentions noted above. He is also a certified therapy dog with Paws for Friendship, Inc., belongs to the Hartford Public Library Paws to Read program in which he is a certified assistance dog, is the first known Community Emergency Response Team therapy dog in Connecticut as well as K9 First Responders (K9FR) which is critical incident mental health support organization. Through it all, he knows he’s important but he really doesn’t know why! What humility!
