Introduction

"E.T. - phone home!" The lovable alien entered homes in the 1980s via a Stephen Spielberg film. E.T. tells the tale of an alien who is left behind when he and his colleagues are surprised by humans. E.T. ends up in the backyard of a kid named Elliot, who somehow coaxes E.T. into the house with the use of Reese's candy. E.T. and Elliot have several adventures, and E.T. develops an affection for the young boy. However, E.T. soon falls ill and Elliot realizes that he must help E.T. get back to his home planet. Although it hurts him to let E.T. go, Elliot realizes that sometimes, when you truly care for something, you have to do what is best for that individual, even if it causes you yourself pain.

E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial Dog Name Considerations

E.T - the extraterrestrial is an alien life form. When Elliot finds E.T., he isn't quite sure exactly what kind of animal he has stumbled upon. As any young child might do with a strange but friendly animal, Elliot tries in a number of ways to hide his new friend. He dresses E.T. in women's clothing, and he keeps the extraterrestrial in the closet in an effort to fool his mother regarding E.T.'s presence. One family member that Elliot cannot hide E.T. from is the resident pet, Harvey. Harvey is the family's Golden Retriever. Although the breed is generally quite docile and friendly, Harvey initially does not take to E.T.'s presence at all. In fact, he barks at E.T. quite a bit. Eventually, Harvey begins to warm up to E.T. Foods that the extraterrestrial refuses to eat, such as potato salad, go in the floor. At this point, Harvey is more than happy to clean up the mess. Shortly after, E.T. and Harvey begin to tolerate one another. One fact that many E.T. fans might not know is that the creator of the alien modeled E.T.'s face after that of a Pug. Therefore, while any breed is suited to an "E.T." inspired name, the Golden Retriever and the Pug are two breeds that are even more adept for a name from the blockbuster movie.
