Introduction
Frozen Dog Names in Pop Culture
One Pit Bull named Olaf lived part of his life in an abusive household. In fact, he spent his first year in a horrific situation. Olaf, who was then called Bullet, had been severely beaten by his owner. This abuse had taken place on multiple occasions, until, finally, some neighbors reported the almost daily abuse of Olaf to the proper authorities. Olaf was brought to the Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control facility, and, when Danielle Cannon visited the shelter just a day later, the dog enthusiast couldn't help falling in love with the sweet dog. When she first saw Olaf, Cannon described him as fearful and emaciated. She took the dog home, and within a month, Olaf had gained weight and many of his wounds had healed. Cannon, along with the workers at the Big Hearts for Big Dogs organization, began a fundraising campaign titled "Olaf's Army." Olaf, of course, became the spokespup for the group. Olaf is now a very happy pup living with Cannon in her home.
Another Olaf that might not be quite as well-known is the brother of Peanut's favorite pup, Snoopy. Sometimes referred to as Ugly Olaf, this Peanuts character entered an ugly dog contest (which he would eventually win). In fact, it is this trait - his looks, or lack thereof - that is often the basis of many gags where Olaf is concerned. In fact, Olaf's family owns a car with a bumper sticker that reads, "Our other dog is a Golden Retriever." Olaf is also a brother to Andy. Although he might not have the best looks in the family, Olaf is credited with a dry sense of humor and quick wit to boot.
Frozen Dog Name Considerations
Because Frozen is the story of a frozen land, dogs that are native to colder regions are best suited to dogs native to colder areas. The audience is informed that Anna and Elsa's hometown is located in the Scandinavian mountains. For this reason, the Danish Mastiff, the Swedish Elkhound and the Norwegian Elkhound are especially suited for Frozen-inspired dog names. Names such as Olaf and Kristoff are particularly suited to these breeds as they also reflect traditional names of that part of Europe. Dogs native to colder climates are also a great fit for Frozen-inspired names. The Alaskan Malamute and the Siberian Husky are associated with the frozen tundra of the far north. However, dogs such as the Samoyed, the Saint Bernard, and the Akita are also traditionally cold-climate dogs.
