Introduction
The German Pinscher can be an intimidating breed when you first meet them, however, if they are properly trained, the German Pinscher is a loving, loyal breed. These medium-sized working dogs resemble their cousin, the Doberman Pinscher, but are an independent breed. There are many reputable breeders within North America and if you are experienced dog trainer and handler, you can probably even find a German Pinscher in need of rescuing. Once you have found your new German Pinscher to bring home and love, the search for the right name will begin! The breed originated in Germany and many people decide to choose a German-inspired name for the new companion.
German Pinscher Dog Names in Pop Culture
Fans of the Westminster Kennel Club’s annual dog show will have become familiar with Bronze Grand Champion Clefell’s Romeo, or just Romeo for short, in February of 2017. Romeo became the number one German Pinscher in the United States in 2016 and was invited to compete at the Westminster Kennel Club’s show in February 2017. Citizens of Torrance, California who frequent Wilson Park are probably already well acquainted with Romeo and his owner Magno Salva. Both Salva and Romeo can be seen often jogging their Wilson Park and stopping to visit some of the locals along the way. This is just one way Salva keeps Romeo in top shape for dog shows. To keep a German Pinscher in top show condition their diet must be carefully monitored and they must have a lot of daily exercises that keep them lean and well-muscled.
Salva has mostly handled Romeo himself throughout Romeo’s show career rather than hire a professional handler. For Salva, the entire experience has brought Romeo and him much closer and they have an unbreakable bond. Having only shown Romeo in the west, the trip to New York City for the Westminster dog show will be both Salva and Romeo’s first. Romeo has established a solid following in the west and many of their family and friends will be glued to the television or computer screen when Romeo is in the ring. In order for Salva to prepare to show Romeo, he enrolled in conformation handling classes and has worked closely with his instructor, Gloria Henderson of the Lomita Obedience Training Club. Salva has only shown two German Pinschers, but Romeo seems to have a sparkle that draws the judges to him.
Romeo was born in Finland and was only 21 months old when he competed at the Westminster dog show in 2017. For such a young dog, Romeo has immense focus when in the show ring. Romeo seems to know when he enters through the gate into the show ring, he is there to work. He struts his stuff and stands attentively for the judges. At the 2017 Westminster Kennel Club dog show there were eight German Pinschers entered. Of the eight dogs entered, Romeo was awarded Select Dog. This is an award of merit that recognizes the next top quality dog after Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex have been chosen. While Romeo did not win Best of Breed, Salva is still proud of the way he looked in the ring. Even though there were only eight German Pinscher’s entered, the competition was steep and this just was not Romeo’s year. After Romeo’s appearance at Westminster, he will continue his show career back on the west coast. Salva tries to keep the cost of dog showing low by not traveling across the country. Already being a bronze grand champion, Romeo’s conformation career may be coming to a close in a short period of time.
German Pinscher Dog Name Considerations
A German Pinscher is a noble breed, much like their cousin, the Doberman Pinscher. Being such an old, dignified breed, they do deserve a name that is also noble and has had a lot of thought put into it. There are numerous names with a German influence that would be ideal for your new German Pinscher puppy. Most of these names are masculine, easy to pronounce and have a meaning that will embody their personality. Do not feel the need to rush into naming your new puppy; you can call them “puppy” until you find a name that fits them. The German Pinscher is a medium sized breed that is bold and strong. Having a name that means strong or even bold would be ideal. Aaron would be a good choice since it means mountain of strength. Jukka is a strong ruler, and Baumar means renowned and bold. Female puppies can also have pretty names that showcase their noble and robust character. Saacha is one who helps and defends her people. Tilda means strength in battle and Allie is of noble birth. Take the time to learn your new puppy’s personality before saddling them with a name that might be so far from their real nature. You will also want to make sure the entire family is on board with the name that you have chosen for your new German Pinscher puppy.
