Introduction
The German Wirehaired Pointer is a taller, heavier dog than the German Shorthaired Pointer and is a distinctively different breed. The German Wirehaired Pointer has a harsh wire coat complete with shaggy eyebrows and beard giving him a wizened, intelligent expression. These are high energy dogs and do not make great companions for just anyone. You have to be an active person willing to spend time training and exercising your German Wirehaired Pointer. Do not expect that your dog will entertain themselves when you do not have time for them; they will become destructive and obnoxious. These dogs love performing dog sports and have an inquisitive nature that will get them in trouble from time to time.
German Wirehaired Pointer Dog Names in Pop Culture
Truman is one of Reece Kennels' shining stars and Mike and Angie Johnson are extremely proud of Truman. Reece Kennels is located in Polk City Florida, near Lakeland Florida. When they started Reece Kennels in the early 2000s, they did not know how deeply they would love the German Wirehaired Pointer. They currently have seven German Wirehaired Pointers and only those dogs that have passed their health tests and conform closely to the standard are put into their breeding program. All of their German Wirehaired Pointer dogs must be free of hip and elbow dysplasia, pass a thyroid, cardiac and CERF examination and their results are recorded with the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). The Johnsons take their breeding program seriously, firmly believing quality over quantity should be any breeder’s mantra. Their three-acre property has been divided into areas for training in agility, obedience, and conformation. They are also active in field trials and are dedicated to producing German Wirehaired Pointers that have a natural aptitude for hunting.
German Wirehaired Pointer Dog Name Considerations
Be sure to thoroughly research the German Wirehaired Pointer before deciding to bring one into your family. This is not a dog for everyone; they are very active and require a hands-on owner willing to devote a lot of time to them. They also require a strong fenced yard to ensure they are not out roaming the neighborhood and getting into mischief when they are outside alone. The German Wirehaired Pointer obviously originated from Germany and the most evident choice for a name for your new puppy would be one that is steeped in German tradition. However, some German names are harsh and do not necessarily invoke images of a cute cuddly puppy.
Make sure your puppy’s name is not similar to any other dog in the neighborhood or any person in the family. Confusion will reign if your dog has a name that sounds like someone’s in the immediate family! Take time to get to know your new puppy’s personality and take into consideration the meanings of names. Therefore, if your dog came in and quickly became the ruler of the household than Heinz or Achaz might be a good choice. Patra is an expressive or intelligent being and would be a good choice for a female German Wirehaired Pointer.
