Introduction

Picture yourself and your dog rolling down the highway, windows down, with the wind in your hair. Imagine Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild" on the radio. Life doesn't get much better, right? For many of us, music- particularly hard, driving rock music -  is an integral part of our lives. The aforementioned Steppenwolf song is one of the first widely popular songs of the hard rock genre, a type of music that spans from the late 60's to today. From Steppenwolf to Deep Purple to Van Halen to Three Days Grace, there are many song and artist names to choose from when naming a dog.

Hard Rock Music Dog Name Considerations

A dog doesn't not need to be a Rottweiler or a Pit Bull to be worthy of a name influenced by hard rock music. Any breed, even the tiniest Chihuahua, can rock a musical moniker!

Often, naming your dog after a favorite rock musician is more about the preferences of the owner. You may have a favorite memory tied to a song. Your favorite band might be a hard rock artist. However, your dog might remind you of a musician. The shaggy coat of a Standard Schnauzer might remind you of Ozzy Osborne in his younger days. The name Blackie, which could refer to the dark coat of your pup, could also be a nod to vocalist Blackie Lawless.

A German Shepherd or a Rottweiler might be named after a member of the German rock group the Scorpions. Since Led Zepplin, AC/DC, and Black Sabbath all hail from England, the English Springer Spaniel or an English Bulldog might be a good candidate for a name inspired by a British rock band.

Regardless of how you choose your dog's name, there are multitudes of choices available. You might decide on a particular band's name, or you may choose your favorite artist within a group. If you love rock music and you love dogs, you can't go wrong using a musical moniker for your canine companion.
