Introduction
Hotel Transylvania Dog Names in Pop Culture
Mavis is Count Dracula's daughter. Mavis and Dracula have a special relationship. In many ways, Dracula feels he must protect Mavis from the outside world. You see, Mavis' mother was taken from her at an early age; she is also the inspiration for the hotel. Mavis' mother, Martha, was killed by a mob of humans. In 1894 (just a few weeks after Mavis made her grand appearance), an angry mob attack Dracula and Martha's home, Castle Lubov. Dracula was able to get away with infant Mavis in tow, but Martha was not so lucky. However, her brutal attack was the impetus behind the creation of the Hotel Transylvania. Dracula built the hotel after Martha's death as a place of refuge for other monsters, who really aren't as "monstrous" as the humans might believe. All this changes, however, when Mavis meets and falls on love with the human Jonathan. Mavis will eventually marry Jonathan, and they will have a son, Dennis, who is the apple of his grandfather Dracula's eye.
One dog named Mavis is an English Bulldog known as Mavis Pearl. Mavis was a surprise addition to her family, but, when she was adopted to live with the pet parent's other dogs (a Labrador Retriever and a Golden Retriever), Mavis brought her own personality to the family. Mavis Pearl has actually spent time working as a therapy dog; she can be spotted "reading" with children or visiting the sick in local hospitals. Mavis lived with her adoptive family for seven years before losing a battle with cancer.
Mavis the Dog isn't exactly a canine. No, Mavis the Dog is the name of an indie band from the Philadelphia area. The band has been compared to the indie pop of the late 1980s, and they have quite a local following.
Hotel Transylvania Dog Name Considerations
Because Tinkles is only described as a gigantic blue dog, one can only guess at his parentage. However, one type of giant breed dog that might have fur that resembles a bluish color is the Irish Wolfhound. The Irish Wolfhound is typically gray, but, when bred with dogs with a "blue" gene, it is possible the offspring could have blue fur. Another gigantic breed that might have a bluish tinge of color in their fur is the Great Dane. Again, it is likely that Tinkles is a mix of one of these two breeds with a pup with blue fur (perhaps the Blue Heeler or the Australian Shepherd).
