Introduction
The Ibizan Hound, or Beezer as those that love the breed affectionately call them, are an ancient breed. Some people see them as leggy and lean, while others see them as noble and elegant. The Beezer originated in Spain and are similar to their cousin, the Pharoah Hound. There are two different coat types, smooth and wire. They are excellent companions and love to be with their family; however, they can become quite the clown when they are happy. The Ibizan Hound is becoming more popular in the United States, and finding a reputable breeder is becoming easier. Once you have decided to add an Ibizan Hound to your family, it will be time to start thinking of the perfect name for them.
Ibizan Hound Dog Names in Pop Culture
The Ibizan Hound is gaining popularity and becoming more recognizable thanks to their appearance in the conformation ring. There are several televised dog shows including the Westminster Kennel Club, the National Dog Show, and the AKC/Eukanuba Dog Show that have spotlighted some of the lesser known breeds. The Ibizan Hound also excels at field trials and lure coursing. One such spectacular Beezer is named Kenzie. Kenzie is formally known as MBIF Dual Champion Alisian Fields Kenzie of Kamar MC LCX CGC RN RATILCM vFCH JOR HOF ROMG POMG ROMDC, which is a mouthful! Kenzie holds multiple best in field wins and has produced several best in field winners and dual champions. She was inducted into the Ibizan Hound Club of the United States (IHCUS) Hall of Fame. Kenzie was bred by Alisa Barbour and finished her first AKC conformation championship during the 2008 IHCUS Nationals. She earned her grand championship quickly and switched to field trials where she won six best in field titles through the American Kennel Club (AKC). Kenzie is nicknamed The Machine because she is a consistent runner in the field and in lure coursing. Kenzie has been listed with the AKC as a ROM or Register of Merit. This means she has a total of over 40 points with the AKC, the points must have been earned by four or more offspring, and at least two of the offspring must earn an AKC championship or be awarded the designation of ROM by the IHCUS.
Another Ibizan Hound coming from the same bloodlines as Kenzie is Fenix. Fenix is also formally known as MBIF DC Amberlithe Fenix Returns To Kamar MC LCX LCM JOR. Fenix was bred by Nan Kilgore Little of Amberlithe Ibizan Hounds. Fenix is a happy, playful boy and loves performing in the field. He has multiple best in field wins to his name and has also performed well in lure coursing. Fenix earned his championship quickly while being owner handled. He earned two major wins during the 2012 Western Regional Specialty hosted by the IHCUS. Fenix also quickly earned his AKC Field Champion title and the American Sighthound Field Association (ASFA) Championship title.
Kamar Ibizans is located in Loganville, Georgia and was established in 2004 by Katie Belz, DVM. Belz is the proud owner of Fenix and owner/breeder of Kenzie. She strives to produce healthy Ibizan Hounds that have all been health tested including OFA hips, thyroid, cardiac, BAER, and annual CERF examinations. Kamar Ibizans are well known in the conformation, obedience, rally, and agility rings as well as open field coursing, racing through LGRA and NOTRA, and Lure Coursing through the AKC, ASFA, and NLCC.
Ibizan Hound Dog Name Considerations
The Ibizan Hound is an ancient breed originating from Spain. They are noble, lithe dogs that appear fragile because of their leanness but in reality they are a sturdy breed. The Beezer is gaining popularity within the United States and that means that it is easier to find a reputable breeder. Be sure when you find your new Ibizan Hound puppy the breeder has done all of the necessary genetic testing on the parents to ensure that the puppy is healthy. Finding a name for your new Beezer puppy should be pretty easy, especially if you wait to get to know your new puppy’s personality before choosing a name. Many times it is your new puppy’s personality that will decide their name, however, you may find a name that fits their individuality and has a Spanish influence. For instance, Andres means manly or strong, Paz means peaceful, and Modesto means gentle. For a little girl Ibizan Hound, you could possibly choose Ana meaning poised or having grace, Damita meaning little noble lady, or Jazmin meaning elegance and grace. Even if you decide not to pick a name that has Spanish roots, be sure to pick a name that is easy to pronounce, does not sound like a common command word, and is not excessively popular in your neighborhood.
