Marvel Inspired Cat Names in Pop Culture
Recently made famous by the late Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal in the Marvel movies Civil War, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet and Avengers: Endgame, Black Panther has been received with much acclaim from critics and Marvel fans alike. Hailing from the fictional African country of Wakanda, T’Challa embodies the strength and courage of both a leader and a superhero, and has quickly become a beloved member of the Marvel cinematic universe.
Before the movies, however, T’Challa had been gracing the pages of Marvel comics for decades, and was the first African superhero to appear in mainstream American comics. Created by the iconic team up of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Black Panther made his first appearance in a 1966 issue of Fantastic Four. Soon, he headed to New York City to join the Avengers, after which he’s enjoyed many guest appearances in various titles, and several of his own self-titled series.
Prince T’Challa grew up in Wakanda knowing he would be king, and trained his entire life to be able to take up the mantle of Black Panther, a ceremonial title given to the leader of the Panther Tribe. While skilled in fighting styles, hunting, tracking and politics, T’Challa even earned a PhD in physics, and became an inventor and scientist.
When his father passed away, T’Challa had to defeat the champions of the Wakandan tribes to earn the throne and the title of Black Panther. Now King, T’Challa was able to consume a special heart-shaped herb that connected him to the Wakandan Panther God Bast, which enhanced his speed, strength, stamina, agility, reflexes, and healing. Paired with the vibranium-enhanced technology of his country, Black Panther was quite the force to be reckoned with.
As leader of Wakanda, T’Challa faced many challenges, including exiling his treacherous adopted brother, seeking revenge against his father’s murderer, quelling a civil war, rescuing his kidnapped stepmother, dealing with usurpers to his throne, and fending off an alien invasion. At the same time, he helped the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and other heroes, married Storm of the X-Men, and worked to expand his country’s relations with the world. After decades of stories, T’Challa eventually passed the mantle of Black Panther on to his sister Shuri, a skilled martial artist, engineer and scientist herself.
Marvel Inspired Cat Name Considerations
If you read comics, or just enjoy superhero movies, you’ve got a lot of names to choose from, as so many heroes and villains have two names, their given name and their alias. And with so many heroes, villains and side characters that make up the world of Marvel, there’s sure to be one that fits your cat’s purrsonality.
Got a bossy cat? Perhaps Jonah Jameson, Spiderman’s boss at the Daily Bugle, would fit your ornery feline. Falcon would be pawfect for a cat who loves to soar through the air hunting birds, or your head. Does your cat love to talk and sing? The powerfully vocal Siren may be the moniker you are looking for. But if your kitty seems focused on world domination, Sinister or Doctor Doom may be the right fit.
Looking to match a name with your cat’s appearance? The quite agile Silk would be furbulous for a soft-furred kitty. Albino would fit a light-colored cat, Rhino would be fun for a gray one, while Topaz could be purrific for a cat of many colors. And if your black, boy cat is an absolute troublemaker, Black Tom says it all.
