Introduction
Missouri Dog Names in Pop Culture
We will begin with an extraordinary Chinese Crested dog named Holly. Holly is a rescue dog. Her journey has been a long and difficult one. Holly was a product of a breeding mill where both she and her mother were abused. She was purchased by a genuinely loving person, particularly after she saw Holly being picked up by her ears or her tail. However, Holly's initial owner already owned a standard Poodle, and the older dog was aggressive toward Holly. In addition, there was a cat present in the home who did not take to Holly in a kind manner.
After some major changes in Holly's initial family, Holly moved with the family to a home in Nevada where two Dobermans were already quite used to having the run of the place. Unfortunately, having a standard Poodle, two Dobermans, and a cat who just could not accept Holly, her initial owner placed an ad on Craigslist searching for a new owner for Holly. This is how she came to be with her current owner. Holly is now a happy five-year-old. She lives with her fellow rescues, and her human mom often fosters other dogs. Holly's mom says that her mission is to show Holly that she need never fear anyone or anything. Holly can be found on Facebook in her signature pajamas.
Another Holly the dog is also a rescue dog. Holly was featured on the Howard Stern show in mid-2017. Holly had been surrendered to the North Shore Animal League shelter after her original owner passed away. While visiting the shelter, Stern's wife fell in love with the ten year old mixed breed dog. However, Stern made a plea for someone to please adopt Holly before he himself fell in love with her. Of course, Stern and his wife Beth are always taking in a number of animals. The couple admits that they have a "full house of animals already." Regardless of whether or not Holly ends up permanently with the Sterns, she will be loved deeply.
Missouri Dog Name Considerations
Hunting is a popular pastime in the Show Me state. As far as big game hunting goes, elk, whitetail deer, and wild boar are plentiful in Missouri. Smaller game such as rabbits, squirrels, and fox are also regularly hunted in Missouri. Turkeys and crows may be hunted, and a number of waterfowl round out the game available for hunting. As it is in many other states, a number of dog breeds are developed for hunting specific animals. The Feist is a great small game hunter, particularly where squirrels and raccoons are concerned. Beagles and hounds are utilized for hunting the larger game present in Missouri. Finally, breeds such as the Irish Springer Spaniel and the Chesapeake Bay Retriever are great waterfowl hunting companions. The Weimeraner is a great companion for those who enjoy hunting small game birds. With the variation of breeds and the sport they represent, choosing a name can be an enjoyable process.
