Introduction
Has the moment finally arrived where you have the opportunity to add a dog to your family's life? Dogs are great companions for children to grow up with, they can warn of intruders, and they are loyal and protective without a thought for their safety. The greatest part of choosing a dog is to see all those adorable puppies. If you are like me, you probably want to take them all home, but hopefully common sense prevails, and finally, you head off with your new fluffy dog curled up on your lap. Now begs the question - what will you call this little mischief maker? Tricky isn't it? But never fear, we are here to help. This selection of dog names is a fun one. The names are based on mysteries, you know, the who-done-it type of story where you are often left guessing who did do it right until the very end. Life should be fun, at least your dog thinks so, therefore why not give them a unique and fun name? Our mystery dog names lists offer a great selection to help you choose a new name for your precious pup.
Mystery Dog Names in Pop Culture
Scooby Doo is an animated cartoon dog - a Great Dane no less - who along with his four teenage human friends get into a series of mystery solving antics. The series began in 1969, and there are still reruns of the classic cartoon being run today on television. Scooby Doo and his close friend Norville Rogers, otherwise known as Shaggy, were usually reluctant heroes and always tried to sneak away and hide in scary situations. Scooby Doo seemed to bumble his way about and usually ended up helping to solve the mystery, much to his surprise. The team of five (Shaggy, Velma, Daphne, Fred and Scooby Doo) get into all sorts of mysteries: dealing with ghosts, ghouls, hidden treasure and more. Shaggy was just about as cowardly as Scooby Doo, and they both loved their food. When they were separated you would hear Shaggy call out, "Scooby Doo - where are you?" This phrase became a regular part of the show. The artist took liberties with the form of Scooby Doo - his legs were a bit bowed, he had a sloping back and possessed a double chin. But the thing is here, is that he was a loveable dog with a crazy voice and entertained many with his cowardly heroic acts. This cartoon must be one of the most memorable series today and is still appealing to the younger (and not so young) generation. While Scooby Doo may not be your choice for your dog’s name, he is still one heck of a dog.
Another dog within the Pop Culture genre is an animated dog called Mystery, who is the mascot of the Mystery Skulls Paranormal Team. While not much history is known about this strange white dog with the cool red and spiky black mane on his head, he has proven himself to be loyal and attentive - much like Scooby Doo. He is owned by a girl called Vivi, who seems to be totally unaware that Mystery has another form, that of a fox! By now you may be wondering what Mystery Skulls is? Well, they are an American indie pop/electronica act by Luis Dubuc that originated in Dallas Texas, but now operates out of Los Angeles, California. Several videos have been created for the Mystery Skulls songs by their fans. It was in October 2017 when an animated video of a group of characters very similar to the plot line of Scooby Doo appeared, and they travelled about and encountered various paranormal situations which they had to work together to solve the mystery. Their dog Mystery demonstrates all the loyalty and courage that a 'normal' dog possesses and seems to be a modern version of the Scooby Doo that we all know and love.
Mystery Dog Name Considerations
Naming your dog should be fun, though it is a challenge without a doubt as you can only choose one name. No doubt you have a few that you like and are finding it hard to choose a winner. Take time out to study your dog, and speak the name out loud to see if he has any reaction. Somehow the right name will just sound - well - right! It will describe your dog to the letter, and just seem to sound as though your dog was meant to be called that name. Please steer clear of any names that can be a bit offensive - remember, this is your best friend that you are naming. It's a living creature so be kind, give it a name that suits its size, breed, and character. There are some awesome names in the mystery genre; they can sound intriguing and become a real conversation starter. A sleek and suave dog may suit a name from a James Bond film, or a distinguished dog may suit a dapper name, perhaps after an author such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So please view our mystery dog name lists and see if you can find a title there that is just perfect for your new family addition.
