Introduction
New Zealand Huntaway Dog Names in Pop Culture
Although not a Huntaway breed, a dog with one of our popular names has the same valuable traits of the Huntaway and has risen to become one of the first assistance dogs in New Zealand. Delta has been trained for an Afghanistan veteran, Dion Taka, who was injured in the battle of Baghak in 2012. The name Delta means a change in course and she has certainly changed the course of Dion's life, who says she has helped him manage his symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The Kotuku Foundation provides dogs like Delta, and Dog trainer Janice Kirk has spent her entire career promoting the use of dogs for healing.
Delta is now close to becoming a fully qualified assistant dog and the amazing thing is that this has all been free of charge. Dogs have that unique ability to sense what someone is feeling, and they offer comfort, companionship, and loyalty. A dog will live to serve, without wanting anything in return apart from some affection.
It is the same with the Huntaway dog, they will spend hours in rough weather, in rugged terrain, protecting and moving their master's flock. They will do anything to please their master, and give affection and total loyalty in return. We are blessed to have them.
New Zealand Huntaway Dog Name Considerations
The name you give your dog often depends on the type of personality your dog has. Quiet, shy dogs suit names such as Blossom, Sabre, or Utah. Outgoing dogs fit names like Nitro or Storm. Leave it a day or two before giving your dog a name. This allows time to see what your pup is like. Do they move fast or slow? Are they full of mischief or well behaved? Your dog will have this name for the length of their life, so take the time and give them a name that will grow with them.
