Prague Dog Names In Pop Culture
There have been a plethora of pets gracing the halls of the White House in Washington, D.C. One of those pets was a little Yorkshire Terrier named Pasha. Pasha belonged to Tricia Nixon, the daughter of President Richard Nixon. While Pasha was devoted to his young mistress, he was also frequently seen with the President and First Lady when Tricia was busy with her studies. Pasha accompanied Nixon to the 30th anniversary of the March of Dimes in 1968. It was not long after that celebration that Nixon made the announcement he was running for president. Before the inauguration ceremony that would swear Nixon in as President of the United States, a special greeting was arranged with departing president, Lyndon B. Johnson and his wife, Lady Bird Johnson. Since Nixon’s pets were already at the White House, former President Johnson arranged to have them greet their family at the top of the steps. Vicky, a Poodle, wore a white jacket that was trimmed in red, white and blue. Pasha had been groomed and his hair was pulled back from his face with a fancy ribbon. While at the White House, Pasha quickly made himself at home and enjoyed spending time playing with Vicky and his big brother, King Timahoe, the Irish Setter. The three dogs loved to make mischief and play in their kennel that was set up just outside the West Wing. People also got to watch their antics while they tumbled and chased one another on the White House lawn. All three dogs quickly discovered the pond in the gardens that contained goldfish. Vicky was determined to catch a goldfish while Pasha and King Timahoe seemed content to just watch.
Pasha was made even more famous in 1974 when Julie Nixon Eisenhower, daughter of Richard and Pat Nixon published a children’s story named “Pasha Passes By” in the Saturday Evening Post. Pasha was six years old when the story was published. The story followed Pasha as he explored the White House and found mischief wherever he went. The Nixon family deeply loved their pets and even reporters took note that when the dogs ran to greet any member of the family, there were smiles and pure happiness all around. In August of 1974, Richard Nixon resigned as President of the United States amid the Watergate scandal. The family, along with Pasha, Vicky, and King Timahoe, returned to their home located in San Clemente, California.
Prague Dog Name Considerations
Prague inspired names may seem a little odd to some people. But for others who have fond memories of the capital city of the Czech Republic, naming your new puppy in a way that reminds you of the city is a good idea. There have been many famous people that have been born in or near Prague where you can draw inspiration for a name for your dog. Many political figures, professional athletes, movie stars and models have roots that run deep in Prague. Sports buffs may like naming their puppy after athletes such as ice hockey player Jaromir Jagr, soccer player Petr Cech, and tennis star Martina Navratilova. If you are politically motivated and closely follow Czech politics, you may consider naming your new puppy after the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Mirek Topolanek. There have also been many composers, dancers, and opera singers that have risen from humble beginnings in Prague such as composer Antonin Dvorak, singer Dagmar Peckova, and dancer Daria Klimentova. Whether there is a person you admire from Prague, you have visited the great city, or you are simply fascinated with all things Prague you will find the perfect name for your new puppy. Your family and friends may wonder about your choice of name, but your dog will probably be sporting the most interesting name in the neighborhood.
