Snow Buddies Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Snow Buddies is one of the most recognizable films from the series and the last to feature the Framm family and the Golden Retriever parents, Buddy and Molly. In this film, the Buddies once again go out on an unexpected adventure to Alaska. Even though the Buddies are arguably the most recognizable canine characters from the movie, Shasta the Siberian Husky was a scene stealer.
The film Snow Buddies takes place in the fictional town of Fairfield. The Buddies, composed of B-Dawg, Budderball, Mudbud, Rosebud and Buddha, are enjoying time with their respective owners before they go back to school. One day, the Buddies plan a meet up in the park to play. Budderball, the food-crazed pup out of the gang, runs after an ice cream truck and goes inside. The rest of the Buddies are forced to go after the truck to try and save Budderball but they get trapped in a truck heading to a small town in Alaska called Ferntiuktuk.
Upon arrival in Ferntiuktuk, the Buddies meet a Siberian Husky named Shasta. His owner, Adam Bilson, wants to win the sled dog race that his late father participated in. Thus, Shasta employs the Buddies to help them participate in the race. At the same time, they will use the race to get to the airport, which is situated in the finish line. Having no parents, Shasta tries to convince the legendary Alaskan Malamute named Talon, who was a former mentor to Shasta’s father, to teach the Buddies to become snow dogs.
Adam becomes really happy after meeting the Buddies and envisions himself winning the race that he has always dreamt of. He and the dogs start training regularly and he even creates a new sleigh for the race. Under Talon’s tutelage, the team becomes a more solid and tight-knit unit. The other dogs in town, however, get jealous and plot ways to make them fail.
Back in Fernfield, Buddy and Molly make their way to Alaska to rescue their pups after being informed by Deputy Dan and Mrs. Mittens about the Buddies’ involvement in the race. On the day of the race, Adam signs up and is warned by Sheriff Ryan of the potential dangers. Jean George, the defending champion, starts to cheat and sabotage the other contestants. Ultimately, only Jean George and Adam remain. When the ice shatters, Jean George’s dogs sink with it. Their owner abandons them but Adam and his team save Jean George’s dogs’ lives. The dogs, realizing that their owner does not care about them, intentionally slow down so that Jean George will lose the race.
Adam and his team emerge as the winners of the race and Buddy and Molly arrive to retrieve the puppies. Shasta and Adam parts ways with the Buddies as they need to return home. When they arrive, they are met by their respective owners. The film ends with Adam and an adult Shasta participating in sled dog racing and Talon teaching a new pack of dogs.
