Introduction
Standard Schnauzer Dog Names in Pop Culture
For general advertising purposes - and to further the theme of the film that the "tramp" isn't equal to Lady, Tramp is marketed as a mixed breed dog (as opposed to being a purebred dog such as his love interest). What is not so readily shared is the fact that Tramp has Schnauzer blood. This blood will be very evident in his offspring, Scamp.
Tramp, although an animated pup, does seem to possess many characteristics of a Schnauzer. His coat color, gray and brown with a smattering of white, seems to resemble that of a Schnauzer. He is also described as having a "scruffy" appearance." Certainly, after close perusal, one can see that he does have the slightest beard just as a Schnauzer would. He has the Schnauzer nose, and his coat, particularly around his chest, seems to be somewhat shaggy. Tramp's trademark white chest and belly stripe is passed down to his children, the aforementioned Scamp, and his daughter, Danielle.
Scamp has much more of the Schnauzer appearance than his father. This is quite striking considering that his mother, Lady, is an American Cocker Spaniel. Scamp appears to have the characteristic Schnauzer legs, and he has more of the Schnauzer "beard" than his proud papa, Tramp.
Scamp does his best to live up to his name - a pup that always attempts to bend the rules and seems a little rebellious. However, Scamp is a lovable pup; he is always sweet despite his penchant for mischief. In the Lady and the Tramp sequel (in which Scamp has a starring role), Scamp longs to be in a world without rules or fences. However, the young pup will soon find that this is not a world he wishes to live in. Scamp does find himself in trouble, both with his family and with the law, after he steals to prove he is worthy of being in the Junkyard Dog street group. After being captured, Scamp realizes his parents' rules are for his benefit, not to cage him. Scamp finally returns home, and he learns to appreciate his parents' boundaries.
Standard Schnauzer Dog Name Considerations
The Standard Schnauzer is also somewhat obstinate. Connor is a great name for a stubborn male pup; it literally translates as "strong-willed." Teela is a perfect female name meaning stubborn as well. Finally, the Standard Schnauzer is quite intelligent, and the dog is often quite inquisitive. For females, the names Zelda and Penelope just seem to exude a curious intelligence. Wren and Pepper might be fitting names for a curious male pup.
