Introduction
The Hunchback of Notre Dame Dog Names in Pop Culture
Hugo is a common name among pups as of late. One particularly popular dog is Hugo, a Jack Russell Terrier who not only has a rather large social media following, but also stays quite busy visiting children at schools. He also makes appearances at a variety of other organizations. Hugo spreads a message of inspiration wherever he goes. You see, Hugo was hit head on by a car in 2015, and the accident left him paralyzed. At one time, Hugo's owner had to take him to the veterinarian daily. While there, Hugo would undergo a form of doggie dialysis. This was due to a loss of nerve function in the lower portion of Hugo's spine. Hugo was under constant vet care for at least three months before he returned home to his family. It was at this time that Hugo's owner had to bring him in daily for doggie dialysis. Unfortunately, the vet told Hugo's owner that this type of thing could not go on forever. There was a discussion of euthanizing Hugo. However, his quick-thinking owner was quick to come up with a solution that would give Hugo some of his mobility back. Hugo's owner fashioned a doggie wheelchair for him. Since then, Hugo and his owner have begun making rounds at schools in their local area and sharing Hugo's story. One teacher at the school they visited asked the kids what the visit from Hugo taught them, to which they replied, "Never give up!"
One other famous Hugo is Hugo the Therapy Dog, a Golden Retriever mix who enjoys working with both kids and adults. Hugo has a rather large social media following, and he enjoys nothing more than making people happy.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame Dog Names
First, the film is set in Paris, France. With this in mind, one might consider dogs that originated in this area as being suited for a name inspired by The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Breeds such as the Poodle (including the miniature Poodle variety), the French Bulldog, Papillon, and the Dogue de Bordeaux are all breeds that originated in France. Surprisingly enough, one might be surprised to find that the Great Pyrenees, the Bloodhound, and the Basset Hound are also French in origin.
Often, when Americans hear the name "Notre Dame," we think of the historic college located in Indiana. Dogs popular in the state of Indiana are the Labrador Retriever and the Golden Retriever. A final name consideration might come from the magical element of the movie. Esmeralda is a gypsy, and she is arrested for allegedly performing witchcraft. Also, various names from the film are associated with mythology: Phoebus, for example.
