Introduction
This series did for dystopian fiction what Twilight did for supernatural fiction. It brought us a bunch of copycats, but it also gave us a story that made us think. We fell in love with the characters and joined their fight against the evil Capitol. We saw a strong and diverse cast take on the worst evil in their world and come out scathed. It was human and despite the horrific conditions, we could relate to them. We loved the world of Hunger Games, although we would not want to live there, we still like to feel part of it.
The Hunger Games Dog Names in Pop Culture
There are not a lot of pets in Panem. Unless you count the Capitol, which we don’t. The truth is that the districts can barely feed themselves, so keeping an animal around would not make sense. There are a few exceptions, namely Prim’s cat. But we don’t count that either. We could also talk about the gruesome muttations that were engineered for the first games’ finale. These terrible creatures were genetically engineered dogs who were designed to inspire terror. It is a very important part of the first book that psychologically scars Katniss and illustrates the depravity of the Capitol. It is safe to say that the books were darker than the movies.
Thankfully though, there is good news in the middle of all the madness. We don’t live in Panem, and we can have pets. Katniss may not have wanted a dog (she should have got one at the end of the book; it would have helped with her recovery). But the beloved actress who portrayed her, Jennifer Lawrence, was not under those restrictions. Jennifer, who is known for being wonderfully down-to-earth and normal, has her very own dog.
Pippi Lawrence Stocking has a very special place in Jennifer’s heart. She is passionate about her dog and has gone on record saying that if you are not crazy about your dog, she’s not sure if you have anything to talk about. This is an important piece of information, if you ever meet J-Law in person, just talk about how wonderful your dog is and the two of you will chat for hours.
As the apple of her mistress’ eye, Pippi lives a life like no other. J-Law commissioned a portrait of her beloved dog that hangs over her fireplace at home. Pippi goes everywhere with Jennifer, even when she must jet around the world. She is also particular about who gets to touch her dog. This is proven by an incident that happened at the LA International airport. Jennifer was making her way through the crowds, ignoring a paparazzo. This is a common occurrence, but what isn’t common is the paparazzo tried to pet Pippi. Jennifer snapped at the unfortunate paparazzo and scooped her precious dog off the floor. In the Hunger Games movies, Jennifer plays a hero who would never consider taking on the responsibility of a dog. Thankfully, Jennifer has enough room in her life for Pippi.
The Hunger Games Dog Name Considerations
In the Hunger Games we watch the protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, overcome her fears and become the symbol of hope to a desperate world. We watch as she grapples with her shortcomings and lets her strengths win. She is terrified of the reaping, but she loves her sister more. She does not want to be a part of the rebellion because she is terrified of President Snow. But after seeing a hospital get attacked, she personally calls him out. And at the end of it all, when her fight should be over, we see her lose everything. Only to get back up again to start fresh. Slowly, and painfully, but she gets up again.
Katniss is not the only character we love. We see all sorts of shining examples of humanity in between the scarred landscape of Panem. There is Johanna, who has lost a lot but still wants to be a good person. Finnick, who was abused but still sees the best in people. Peeta, who despite not being loved by his mother, gave all the love he had to Katniss and everyone around him. These characters are why your dog would be proud to have a Hunger Games name.
