Introduction
The Lone Ranger western began back in 1949 and continued until 1957 as a drama television series. It was the sort of stuff legends were made of and had the outstanding hero (the Lone Ranger) and his Indian sidekick Tonto. They roamed far and wide righting all wrongs and bringing justice and law unto the Wild West. At the time it was a series that inspired a lot of youngsters, who would wait with anticipation for each new drama. What could be better than that to inspire a name for your new furry friend? Perhaps a name like Kemosabe, meaning trusty scout, will suit your furry companion. Maybe Tonto is the right choice, or even Mask (the hero wore a mask for disguise). Browse our list of monikers inspired by this great legendary western hero; you are sure to find an original name for your dog!
The Lone Ranger Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
Bullet was a German Shepherd, a fine looking dog who loved all the attention he got when he was performing. The television show was geared to a younger audience and the story was based around Roy Rogers as a ranch owner who lived in the fictional town of Mineral City, while Dale played the part of the proprietor of the Eureka Cafe in town. Bullet was often seen running along beside Roy's horse - a beautiful Palomino called Trigger. Bullet made his debut in the Roy Rogers film 'Spoilers of the Plains' in 1951. In total there were 100 episodes including 'The Blind', 'The Perfect Alibi', and 'Riding Double'. The show ran on the NBC for six seasons from December 1951 until June 1957. The series followed plots such as cattle rustling and bank robbers, not to mention claim jumpers and other 'bad guys,' but nothing that Bullet couldn't handle.
For many years, a museum dedicated to memorabilia from Roy and Dale enjoyed many visitors at Branson, Missouri but after it closed in 2010, the contents were sold at auction. A preserved version of Bullet was sold for around $35,000 proving that Bullet is still remembered and revered. The purchasers of Bullet (they also bought the stuffed Trigger for an amazing $266,000 when opposing bidders fought it out) were RFD-TV owner Patrick Gottsch who said they aimed to begin airing old Roy Rogers movies and that Roy Rogers son Roy Jr, will be introducing each film with Bullet and Trigger standing in the background. The auctioneer said she had never experienced an auction like it. The emotion and the sentiment were overwhelming especially when Bullet was offered for sale, and all things from the museum of memorabilia sold. Like many dogs, Bullet enjoyed a good life and endeared himself to many. Nice to know his legend still lives on.
