In the television series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the focus is mostly on the titular character Kimmy Schmidt, whose life as a 29-year old is chronicled throughout the four seasons. While Kimmy is a beloved character who is adored by virtually all of the fans of the sitcom, another character considered as the “scene-stealer” was Titus Andromedon.

Played by actor Tituss Burgess, Titus is the flamboyant and melodramatic roommate of Kimmy Schmidt. Even though he is a bit narcissistic and selfish, he can be very protective of Kimmy and would try to help her when he can. He is also extremely talented in singing and acting but is plagued by insecurity and self-doubt after being repeatedly rejected.

As the show progressed, bits and pieces of Titus’ backstory were explored; he came from Chikasaw County, Mississippi and was a popular football player during his high school. He had known he was gay from the time he was young but chose to remain in the closet until his wedding day to his childhood friend. Not wanting to get stuck pretending to be straight, Titus left the reception and ran away to New York City in search of a new life. Being a fan of Broadway, particularly the musical The Lion King, he had auditioned many times but failed. In the final season, however, he was eventually cast in the musical, fulfilling his lifelong dream. Tituss Burgess’ portrayal of the character has been critically lauded and is considered to be his breakout role. For his role as Titus Andromedon, he had received 4 Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Another popular character with the name Titus is the Great Dane from the Batman comics. Titus is a Great Dane that is owned by Damian Wayne. Titus the Dog was named after Titus Andronicus, the main character from the play of the same name, which is one of the most violent and morbid plays of William Shakespeare. The dog was given to Damian by his father, Bruce Wayne in an effort to establish a relationship between the two. While Damian initially did not care for the pooch, he eventually warmed up to Titus and they built a bond together. Before Flashpoint, the dog was named Ace. However, post-Flashpoint, the new version of the dog is Titus.

Another Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt-inspired canine character is Abbatoir from the show. Abbatoir is Jacqueline Voorhees’ spoiled Shih Tzu lap dog. According to Jacqueline, Abbatoir does not poop and that her anus is “purely decorative”. She also hires Kimmy Schmidt as Abbatoir’s personal dog masseuse.
