Dunkirk was founded in 1880. While no records exist showing how dog-friendly it was in those days, today it makes a furrtastic vacation spot, or home, for dogs of all stripes, spots, and brindle patterns! There are two animal hospitals in Dunkirk, which is impressive for a town its size!

Wright Park is a great place to explore with your dog. Keep your dog on a leash six feet or less in length, and you'll be in for a great time! Wright Park has a beach worth exploring, but there are also walking trails if that's something you and your pup would enjoy instead! You can also look at Memorial Park if you have to entertain a big group. Cook out on the grills and get everyone together under shaded picnic tables for lunch! Leashed dogs can also explore the grassy fields and small bike path at Memorial Park.

For a small pet fee, Best Western Dunkirk & Fredonia Inn will let you have your dog in your room with you. They don't limit based on a dog's size, and you can have multiple dogs in the same room--perfect for people who travel with a whole pack!

Dunkirk is a great place to explore with your dog by your side!

Twenty minutes from Dunkirk is Ottoway Park in nearby Westfield. This park has amazing views of Lake Erie, and it's also a great, dog-friendly place to camp! Starting with the lake, this park is known for its great views and lakeside tables. Look out over the water while having lunch, and then go wade in to cool off. As long as your dog stays on leash, he's welcome in Ottoway Park. Just watch out for fishermen! You have to talk to the KOA, but for a small pet fee, you and your dog could be dreaming the night away in a tent or RV hookup spot!

If you're looking for a gorgeous slice of nature near Dunkirk, but you've had your fill of Lake Erie, head to Burr Falls in the South Brocton neighborhood. It's a twenty minute drive in from the coast, but it's totally worth it. This stretch of natural land has accessible trails that bring you in from the parking lot and lead you through to a three-seasons waterfall and a great fishing spot. People come here to get away from manicured parks and into nature. It's a great place to walk your dog, or fish. Just be sure to bring your own supplies out with you!

Joy Russell Park is a ten minute drive from Dunkirk in the town of Fredonia. It has a full playground and several sports fields, including a baseball diamond and tennis courts. Walking your dog along the loop path is good way to get your steps in for the day. The park doesn't have a lot of open space, but dogs who love crowds will love this park. If your dog is ready for a nap after the excitement of meeting new people, this is the park for you. There are picnic tables and a shaded gazebo, but the majority of the park is open for sports.
