This trail will bring you into the Sterling Forest State Park. The park is 21,935 acres of glorious wilderness in the Ramapo Mountains which welcomes leashed dogs to explore its 32 marked trails. The Sterling Ridge Trail itself is 8.6 miles and follows the beautiful Sterling Ridge into Hewitt, New Jersey. One of the features of this hike is the 60 foot Sterling Forest Fire Tower. Don’t forget waste bags and drinking water for your pooch!

If you and your pupper don’t want to stray too far from town, an urban park might be your jam. The Indian Park neighborhood has the pawfect park for you! This neighborhood is home to the Village of Greenwood Lake Recreation Park. This park features baseball diamonds, which your dog is free to enjoy while there are no games in play. The park welcomes dogs, but has a mandatory leash policy that is enforced. You may want to spend the day here, so pack lunch! This park also has barbeque and picnic areas.

Just a 12 minute drive from Greenwood Lake, this state forest park offers ample opportunity for you and your pup to get some fresh air and exercise outdoors. The forest is just over 2000 acres, and is known for its beautiful vistas and bird’s eye view of the Greenwood Lake village and lake. The Appalachian Trail passes through the northwest corner of this forest. Some shorter trails for you and your pup to enjoy include the Bearfort Trail, the Quail Trail, and the Ernest Walter Trail. Pups are welcome to join in on the fun, as long as they’re leashed and picked up after!
