Hilton Head Island in South Carolina is the dream vacation for any beach goer. With 66 square miles of land, the island is a popular beach destination during the summer, and can get up to 4 times its average population in the seasonal months. Summertime is always fun for the dog residents of Hilton Head, but this island-town offers activities year-round for man's best friend.
The dream spot for Fido would be the Best Friend's Dog Park. Your pup will have plenty of room to run around, whether he chooses the separate large or small area. Each section is fenced in, is double-gated, and has water fountains, clean-up bags and lots of tennis balls. Humans even have access to a picnic area and benches. It will be impawssible not to love it!
Although, if you're not a fan of much socialization, Hilton Head understands. There are even more open parks around, like Chaplin Community Park. This park is the largest in Hilton Head, with paved trails going throughout the park and open green spaces that offer a quiet getaway for just you and your pup. Fido is welcome, but must stay on a leash.

The Folly Field neighborhood is a pawtastic option when it comes to the beach. Burkes Beach is one of the longest beaches on the island, and has more to offer than just sand and water. At the parking lot, there are trash bins and clean-up stations for Fido. Alder Lane Beach Access is also dog-friendly, and your pup is welcome to run around off leash here, as long as he is under voice command at all times. Both beaches are summertime destinations, meaning Fido is only allowed before 10 am and after 5 pm in the on season months of April through September, and anytime in the offseason months.
If you and your pup are up for adventures, you both will love the Sea Pines neighborhood. This community offers the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, a dog-friendly preserve with nature trails and boardwalks through the swamps lands, deep forests and rice fields, all with gorgeous lakefront views. Fido must remain on a leash at all times while in the park, but has access to water fountains and trash bins in the parking lot. If you're looking for a unique activity to take Fido on, the Vagabond Cruise is a dog-friendly touring company that allows all dogs to come along on their dolphin tours. While on the boat, Fido must remain on leash and you should bring water and clean-up bags.
