Rockwood Park
The community of Rockwood is home to Ruff House Dog Park at Rockwood Park. Locals rave about this large, well-maintained dog park. There are two areas for large dogs as well as a separate area for smaller dogs. The park hosts various events throughout the year, so there is always something to do. There is a water area to keep your pooch hydrated and benches where you can relax while your companion plays and makes new friends. The park also provides clean-up bags, trash cans and a few toys for dogs to enjoy. For pet parents, there are benches and awnings for shade.

Town Center/ Randolph-Macon College
If you want to spend a day outside of the city with your furry friend, head north to Ashland, Virginia. While you’re there, be sure to check out Hanover Dog Park. This one-acre grassy park is fenced in and has agility equipment for adventurous canines. There are also hydration stations and a few toys for dogs to play with. Benches are situated around the perimeter so pet parents can relax and take in the action. Located just off I-95, this park is perfect for travelers passing through the area as well as locals. If you’re up for a longer walk, check out the Ashland Trolley Line, which is part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy.

Forest Hill
Just across the James River from downtown Richmond, the Forest Hill area is a great community to visit with your canine companion. Stop by Phideaux Field at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church, and let your dog blow off some steam in this private, fenced-in park. This park is usually quieter than many of the city’s other parks, so it’s a good place to relax. If you’re in the mood to take your pup for a walk, head over to Forest Hill Park. This large park features a lake, picnic shelters and plenty of paths and trails for walking and jogging with your best friend.

Maymont
When visiting Maymont, be sure to check out Barker Field at Byrd Park. The large, off-leash dog park has high, secure fences to securely contain even the most adventurous explorers. Water is available during the summer months as well as tennis balls and clean-up bags. Like most parks, this one features separate areas for large and small breeds. There is plenty of open space and shade. Get out and play with your canine companion, or sit and watch from one of the bench swings. Whichever you choose, you and your pup will have a great day at Barker Field.

Church Hill
Located just southwest of downtown, Richmond’s Church Hill area is a vibrant community with one of the city’s best dog parks. Church Hill Dog Park is a fenced park located at Chimborazo Park. There is plenty of space for dogs to run and explore off-leash as well as three doggie cool-down stations for those hot summer days. There is even a kiddie pool for your pup to enjoy! The park features separate areas for large dogs and small dogs, and pup parents will enjoy relaxing on one of the benches in the parks two shelters or catching some rays at one of the picnic tables.
