Standing proudly at the peak of the Watchung Mountains, West Orange, NJ is certainly in a sweet spot -- just sixteen miles from Manhattan, and yet surrounded by perfectly preserved nature. The township is perhaps best known as the home of former inventor Thomas Edison, but you don’t need to be a genius to see why West Orange’s 46,000 residents are happy to call it home! Even with a relatively large population, this dynamic and diverse town manages to maintain a strong community spirit. West Orange’s civic pride is clear to see during the many events that take place throughout the year, from music to film to food festivals.
West Orange doesn’t have its own dog park, but it’s still a pretty fur-friendly place! The town has several community parks that are ideal for leashed walks -- Degnan Park is particularly pawpular with local dog owners. If your buddy loves hiking, you’re in luck -- there’s one gorgeous nature reserve right in town, and a couple of others a short drive away. For doggy dining, check out Jimmy Buffs -- they serve up a seriously special Italian hot dog, and welcome wagging tails outside. And if your fur-ball is restless after so long on-leash, don’t worry -- you’ll find plenty of off-leash adventure options a little further afield!
