Tamarac has grown a lot since it was begun in the 1960s as a bedroom community for Fort Lauderdale. Asking residents today, there are plenty who will attest that there’s nowhere else they’d rather be. If dogs could talk, they would agree--Tamarac dogs have a great life, starting with the five vets and animal hospitals they have at their beck and call. Couple that with the great parks in the area, and it’s proof that Tamarac pets know how to live!
The Gary B Jones Dog Park is a must visit site in Tamarac. This fenced in dog park is great for working out your dog’s energy playing fetch or letting them run. It’s also pupular with the locals, so social dogs can usually find a friend to play with!

La Quinta Inn & Suites Fort Lauderdale Tamarac offers rooms with no pet fee! if you don’t mind paying a little extra for your buddy, Extended Stay America FLL Tamarac is another great option with a small pet fee attached. Woodmont Natural Area in Woodmont is a place for you to get away from it all. Though small, this park makes great use of its space. This area is large and ungroomed, allowing native Florida plants a chance to bloom and grow. This adds to the feeling that this park is far away, rather than nestled in the heart of Tamarac! Leashed dogs are welcome to enjoy the nature trail with you. The trail is popularly used by joggers and cyclists, so it’s important to keep your dog close. Bring your own water (and a doggie bowl for sharing) because this natural area doesn’t have fountains.
The Tamarac Veterans’ Park is a great place to get a taste of local Tamarac culture. This canal park is a beautiful testament to the area’s respect for veterans. There’s also a sculpture by a local Tamarac artist in the park to honor veterans. The park is a canal park offering amazing views of the water. It’s lighted at night, allowing this park to stay open later than other parks in the area. If your puppy needs one more walk before you’re comfortable leaving them in the house for the night, this is a great park to go to. Leashed dogs only.
North Fort Lauderdale is a tongue in cheek name for a neighborhood located entirely within Tamarac. This neighborhood may be essentially an add on to the larger city, but residents still enjoy the perks of small town living. Caporella Park is one such perk! This quiet community park features a small playground and picnic area. The main draw for dog lovers is the walking path near the water! You can take in some great views while working up a sweat with your best friend. The trails are all flat and easy, allowing you to set the difficulty of your walk by how fast you go.
