Markham Park is a fantastic place to take the whole family. The park itself is over 660-acres! It’s home to a long, challenging running trail and to Barkham Park! This adorable play on words is Sunrise’s only dog park! Barkham is set deep into Markham Park, so your dog can warm up with a brisk walk from the parking lot. Then it’s just lots of barking and playing! The fenced, off leash dog park has separate spaces for large and small dogs. It also has water, benches, and a rinse station so your pup doesn’t have to go home dusty!

Sawgrass

Flamingo Park is a small park with several draws for the Sawgrass community it serves. First, it has a large play structure perfect for kids. Secondly, it features sports fields. Lastly, the green open space makes for a fantastic place to sit and rest after exploring options one and two! Dogs will enjoy being able to explore green fields when there isn’t a game in session. The plethora of people that use this park daily results in interesting sights and smells. Even if you don’t have time for a long park exploration, there’s plenty at Flamingo Park to wear your dog out.

Welleby

Welleby Park is a 29 acre oasis in the midst of busy Sunrise! To make it easy to track how much exercise you and your dog are getting, Welleby Park has a popular 1.23 mile walking trail! A lap or more of that should be enough to calm down most dogs! The space has playgrounds and sports fields, but much of it is devoted to just being in nature. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, take your dog to the Strathmore Diner for the kind of Americana that keeps diners in business. Choose from all day breakfast menus, to pork chops, to classic sandwiches--all with outdoor, dog-friendly seating!

The Solaris

Oak Hammock Park in The Solaris sounds like a futuristic destination, but it’s actually a wonderful place to take your pup! While there is a playground for kids, as well as a designated picnic area, the real fun lies on the walking trails! They’re known for their wildlife sightings, so you do need to keep your dog on leash in this park. You don’t want them chasing the wildlife away! Once they’re tuckered out, Bru’s Room Wings and Things is a dog friendly dining destination in the neighborhood. They specialize in pub food that will make your mouth water--and maybe a tail wag!

Woodgate

The Woodgate neighborhood of Sunrise features Oscar Wind Park. This park is close to a school, so beware of the crowds if you want to play right after school gets out! It features a playground and sports fields to cater to the community. Dog walkers will love the green spaces, and the ability to circle the whole park relatively quickly. It’s a great, local spot to head to if you don’t have all day to give your dog the exercise that he needs. It’s also a great place to relax with your dog and a picnic lunch! Dogs must be leashed in the park.
