Looking for a place where your dog can play off-leash? Check out Hefflinger Dog Park, which is just nine miles from Elkhorn in Northwest Omaha. This pawesome park has separate areas for large dogs and small dogs that weigh less than 30 pounds. Both areas are filled with grass your dog will love running in, and there are trees to keep your dog cool on hot days. Water is available in the large dog section. After the park, treat your pup to a snack at Nature Dog. This pet store sells all-natural treats that your dog is sure to love. They also have cutely decorated natural dog biscuits. Your dog will love getting a treat here!

If you’re searching for a great place to walk your dog, try Elmwood Park. Located 15 miles from Elkhorn, this beautiful park welcomes dogs on-leash. While you’re here, you and your dog can explore the park’s numerous hiking trails. These trails will take you through open fields, past a historic stone grotto, and by a peaceful spring-fed creek. Bring some water for your dog, and enjoy seeing everything this park has to offer. If you’re hungry after your walk, head to J Coco. Sit at one of their six dog friendly-tables, and enjoy their modern dishes made with locally-sourced ingredients, including Waygu burgers, shaved prime rib, homemade veggie burgers, and more.

This Louisville neighborhood is home to Platte River State Park, a great place to go for on-leash walks with your dog. This riverside park is 27.5 miles from Elkhorn, and it has miles of hiking trails you can explore with your pup. These trails will take you through the forest and along the scenic Platte River. Plus, the trails will also take you past a roaring waterfall. Along the way, there are plenty of benches where you can pause and enjoy the view with your dog. If you’re hungry after your hike, go for a picnic at Platte River State Park’s picnic area. Bring some treats for yourself and your dog, and enjoy your meal with a view.

Southeast Omaha has another pawesome off-leash area for your pup called Hanscom Park Dog Park. This park is 19 miles from Elkhorn, and it has three separate areas: one for large dogs, one for small dogs, and one that’s open to dogs of all sizes. All three areas feature large fields where your dog can run, play, and roll around to their heart’s content. There are also trees that help keep the park shady and cool. There’s a water fountain in the park that’s operational from Memorial Day to Labor Day — if you’re coming any other time of year, be sure to bring water with you. Your dog will always have fun playing here!
