Valparaiso
Hiking with your pup is healthy and fun when you head out to the Oak Creek Trail. Drive west on Main Road and you will find the trailhead where you can park your car in the convenient lot and begin your adventure. The trail travels across North Oak Creek and you and Fido will enjoy the scenery on a cool afternoon. You can hike 20 miles north toward the town of Brainard where you will see prairie lands, open farmland, and oak woodlands. There are restrooms available in Brainard and you can refill your water bottles. The trail is also equestrian friendly, so make sure to keep your pup on his leash.

Raymond
The town of Raymond is about 10 miles south of Valparaiso and features a pooch-friendly campground where you can spend time with Fido and the family. Branched Oak SRA Campground offers over 300 sites for both primitive and RV camping. You and your pup can stroll around the lake and go fishing, or take your pooch out in one of the rental boats. Hiking through the area is also fun and you will often see other pups and their parents enjoying nature. You will need to keep Fido on his leash and be sure to bring doggie waste bags to clean up.

Dwight
The Red Tail Lake State Wildlife area is about 10 miles west of Valparaiso in Dwight. If you are looking for some peace and quiet while you walk through the forest, Fido will love sniffing the trees and local plants. The trails are clearly marked and you will be able to see the lake and watch the wildlife while your pup rolls in the prairie grass. You will often see other hikers out enjoying the scenery, and you can even hike during the winter months on the well-defined trails. Be sure to keep your pup on his leash and dispose of trash in the convenient receptacles.

Seward
Only 15 miles southwest of town, the Oak Glen Wildlife Management Area is a great place to walk Fido in the Seward. This 633-acre area of land is great for exploring nature and the local wildlife. You will even see cattle grazing on the grassland and listening to songbirds will create a peaceful atmosphere to walk. You can also take your pup on the Plum Creek Trail where you can hike through three miles of open fields and woodlands. The trail follows along Plum Creek and there is a playground at the park where the kids can play. Fido will enjoy crossing over the bridges and sniffing the flowers along the path while you enjoy a sunny afternoon.

Pawnee Lake
Pups and their parents who enjoy camping will love the Pawnee SRA Campground in the Pawnee Lake neighborhood of Lincoln. The campground is just 20 miles south of town and is located near the shores of the 2nd largest lake in the area. You and your pup can pitch a tent or bring an RV and spend a few days fishing in the lake for northern pike or largemouth bass. Pups will also enjoy hiking through the area and exploring the 1,800 acres of natural landscape surrounding the park. You will need to make sure to keep Fido on his leash and bring your own doggie bags to clean up.
